Chapter 3
Eliza had borrowed a total of two hundred thousand dollars. She spent fifty thousand on a form–fitting dress and another fifty thousand to buy an invitation to Edward’s party from someone
else.
Back in the dorm, she admired herself in the mirror wearing this expensive dress.
As soon as Olivia walked into the dorm, she burst out laughing and said mockingly, “Some people have such terrible figures and no sense of style, yet they still think rich men will notice them. Even if you’re pregnant with someone else’s child and looking for a man to help raise it, you should know your place. Edward is surrounded by beautiful women–why would he want just anyone?”
Eliza sneered, “Olivia, you’re just jealous of me. I know you like Edward too. I’ve already done a paternity test—my child is Edward’s. What can you do about it?”
Olivia’s face turned pale with anger, and she ran out of the dorm.
Eliza asked me somewhat insecurely, “Sophie, does this dress really look that bad on me?”
Although Eliza was quite heavy, she had a small chest. This dress clearly exposed the fact that her belly was bigger than her

bust. Plus, her hips sagged severely–she really wasn’t suited for form–fitting dresses.
In my previous life, Eliza often asked me questions like this.
Once when we went out for part–time work, she insisted on wearing a bodycon dress for her interview. I tried to persuade her for a long time before she reluctantly changed into an A–line skirt.
She failed the interview but blamed me for it: “Sophie, you’re just jealous of me, so you made me change clothes and caused me to fail the interview.”
No matter how I explained, she wouldn’t listen.
After I successfully got the job and started working, she came to my company to cause a scene. A few days later, I was fired.
Then Eliza said smugly, “That’s what you get for scheming against me. If I can’t get the job, you shouldn’t be able to work either.”
Just like that, I lost a job that paid seven thousand dollars a month.
Later, I asked the interviewer about the real reason Eliza didn’t pass the interview.
It actually had nothing to do with the clothes–it was because

she lacked the skills.
This time, I absolutely wouldn’t interfere with any of her
choices.

I said exaggeratedly on purpose, “Since you chose it, this dress must perfectly match Edward’s taste. I think Olivia is just jealous of you.”
Eliza snorted coldly, her expression softening slightly: “You’re right. Too bad she’ll never get close to Edward in this lifetime.”
I was somewhat puzzled: “I’ve never heard about you and Edward before. How did you end up pregnant with his child?”
Eliza turned her head away, her eyes evasive: “Don’t worry about that. Anyway, I’m carrying Edward’s child.”
Whatever the case, it had nothing to do with me, and I didn’t want to ask anymore.
Over the next few days, Eliza kept preparing, constantly doing skincare and makeup, while I was busy updating my resume and contacting companies I was interested in.
Soon, Edward’s birthday arrived.
Edward held two parties–one hosted by the Paterson family and another he hosted personally.

We were attending the one he hosted personally.
Before going in, I put on a mask and hat.
Eliza was somewhat displeased: “Why are you wearing a mask and hat? People will think you’re a thief.”
I placated her: “Since I’m here to meet my good friend’s boyfriend, there’s no need to dress too conspicuously. The less Edward notices me, the better.”
Eliza was very satisfied with my answer: “You’re smart. You’re destined to be a lower–class person anyway–some people aren’t for you to covet.”
I sneered inwardly, thinking: “Yeah, I’m lower–class. But how long can you maintain being upper–class?”
She limped into the castle in high heels, immediately showing a greedy expression: “Sophie, this place is so big and beautiful. When I become the lady of this house, I’ll definitely hire you as my housekeeper so you can also experience the taste of wealth.”
