I almost burst out laughing, thinking to myself: “Eliza’s expression is so stubborn–everyone’s going to feel sorry for her.”
I was even starting to worry about Eliza. She’d publicly called Edward irresponsible, and if Edward got angry enough to just kill her on the spot, how would I watch the show unfold?
Fortunately, Edward didn’t disappoint me.
Edward took Eliza’s hand and, performing tenderly and considerately in front of everyone, said the exact words he’d once said to Olivia in my past life: “Since Eliza is already pregnant, I’ll marry her after graduation and make her the lady of the Paterson family.”
Eliza squealed with delight.
smiled, thinking: “Perfect. Things are finally getting back on track.”
The people present began talking loudly among themselves.
Olivia and several classmates were both angry and jealous, complaining about why heaven had blessed Eliza instead of them with such luck.
All the girls who liked Edward were indignant.

One girl said: “Edward, she’s fat and ugly—she can’t compare to any of us.”
Another chimed in: “That’s right, Edward. I could have your
children too.”
Edward said gently: “Thank you for your affection, but I need to be a responsible and reliable father. I have to take responsibility
for both the child and Eliza.”
This time I couldn’t hold back–I laughed out loud.
These girls were all daughters of wealthy families, so Edward didn’t dare bully them. He could only unleash his twisted methods on ordinary people.
And Eliza was the lamb walking straight into his trap.
I laughed too brazenly. When I came to my senses, I found Edward staring at me, his brow furrowed as if he were thinking about something.
I quickly adjusted my collar. Since they’d already announced their relationship, there was nothing left for me here, so I excused myself to use the restroom and then quietly slipped
away.
Over the next few days, Eliza didn’t come back to the dorm, but stories about her and Edward kept circulating around campus.

One guy said: “I ran into them yesterday–Edward bought Eliza a bunch of Louis Vuitton bags.”
A girl said: “I saw them dining at that upscale restaurant where a single meal costs at least a hundred thousand dollars.”
Another girl said: “We’re just as ugly as she is–why does she get to be with Edward? It’s so unfair.”
Everything is calm and beautiful before the storm hits.
During my free time these days, I liked visiting the nursing home. My grandmother Harper Stewart was getting on in years, and spending time with her was better than just giving her more
money.
After visiting Harper, I went to the library to organize my materials.
I was majoring in film and television, so I compiled all the movies I’d watched during college and the scripts I’d written during part–time work.
I had a dream–to become an outstanding screenwriter.
In my past life, Eliza had destroyed me and my dreams too.
This time, I was determined to succeed.

Chapter 6
I’d just left the library when I received a call from Eliza.

She said: “Sophie, I’m back at the dorm. Come back quickly.”
Our dorm room was packed with people.
Seeing Eliza again, I found she seemed like a completely different person.
She was carrying a limited–edition Louis Vuitton bag, wearing a Chanel haute couture dress, and showing off her life from the past few days.
Eliza said: “Edward absolutely loves buying me clothes–each piece costs at least fifty thousand dollars. My closet can’t even hold them all anymore. And I’m already getting tired of riding in Ferraris and Bentleys.”
Many classmates were extremely envious.
One girl said: “Mrs. Paterson, do you need a servant to carry your bags? I could do that.”
Another said: “Me too, Mrs. Paterson. I could help you with things.”
Seeing that I’d returned, Eliza waved at me: “Sophie, Edward’s very busy, so starting today I’ll be staying in the dorm for my pregnancy. You can take care of me from now on.”

So she’d called me back to be her nanny.

I slipped my hands into the pockets of my black windbreaker and put on a troubled expression: “I can’t, Eliza. I’ve been busy looking for work these past few days.”
