Chapter 8
When I arrived, Eliza handed me a photo. “Sophie, is Edward cheating on me?”
The photo showed Edward in an intimate pose with some girl, but her face was blurred out–completely unrecognizable.
I feigned regret as I said, “Eliza, honestly, I’ve felt something was off for a while now. The Paterson family has so much power and influence–why would Edward make a pregnant woman like you live in a dorm? With the Paterson family’s wealth, they could easily put you up in a private care facility.”
Eliza slapped me hard across the face. “Don’t try to drive a wedge between Edward and me! He loves me and our baby— there’s no way he’d betray me!”
My cheek stung with burning pain, and I desperately wanted to slap her right back.
But reason told me to hold back for now.
I clenched my fists, silently memorizing today’s humiliation.
Eliza immediately pulled out her phone, dialing over and over, but no one picked up. “I need to go to the Paterson mansion and see which woman is seducing my man.”
We quickly arrived at the Paterson mansion, and Eliza wanted

me to come with her to catch them in the act.

I quickly refused: “Eliza, catching cheaters doesn’t fit your gentle, kind persona. You just need to go in and act hurt. Some people win without doing anything at all.”
Eliza frowned. “If I find out you’re the one trying to drive a wedge between Edward and me, I absolutely won’t let you get away with it.”
With that, she snorted coldly and went inside.
I crossed my arms and whispered to myself, “Eliza, I forgot to mention–Edward hates it most when people don’t trust him.”
Sure enough, she was kicked out in less than five minutes.
Eliza sat on the ground pleading, only to be kicked away again and even slapped across the face.
Then Edward went back inside. No matter how much Eliza
begged and pounded on the door, it never opened again.
Eliza had a huge handprint on her face, her eyes filled with madness and possessiveness. “Even though Edward won’t admit it, I know he definitely has another woman.”
When dealing with women like Eliza, if you try to reason with her, she’ll only resent you for it.

So I smoothed her hair and comforted her: “You’re being silly, Eliza. Edward must have hit you because he cares about you so much and was angry that you misunderstood him. This is how he shows his love.”
Eliza gradually calmed down. “You’re right–Edward cares about me so much that he hit me. He doesn’t want me to
misunderstand him.”
After that, Edward came to take Eliza out every day. Our classmates were incredibly envious of her, but the injuries on her body got worse each time.
However, these injuries were all in hidden places where outsiders couldn’t see them.
Until one day, she said to me: “Sophie, Edward kicked me in the stomach today, and I almost miscarried. Even though he felt guilty afterward, I’m still afraid the same thing will happen again. What should I do? If I lose the baby, Edward definitely won’t want me anymore.”
I calculated the timing and realized there was still over a month until Olivia’s death in my previous life.
Eliza was blaming me: “Didn’t you say you’d earn money to support me and the baby? Now I’m getting beaten like this, but I haven’t seen any money from you. Where’s your money?”
I found her words utterly ridiculous–she actually still wanted

money from me?

I quickly soothed Eliza’s emotions. “Eliza, I had already picked out some nutritional supplements. But I heard from others that Edward’s mother, Mrs. Sienna Paterson, absolutely loves children, so I spent a lot of money finding out Mrs. Sienna Paterson’s address. As long as you win her over, you won’t have to worry about Edward not marrying you.”
Eliza was both excited and worried. “But I come from such humble origins–will Mrs. Sienna Paterson like me? If Edward finds out I went to his mother without permission, will he be angry?”
