Chapter 7
The one who showed up was Lucas. A few purplish marks were visible on his forehead–probably bruises from climbing all those stairs last night.
His eyes were filled with fury as he stared at me.
I yanked my wrist away and smacked him across the face.
“Watch your words! Don’t forget–we’ve been divorced for a long time!”
He looked stunned, holding the side of his face, eyes wide with shock. “Sharon… I never imagined you’d turn into this kind of person.”
“But never mind,” he said after taking a deep breath to steady himself. “I really do love you. Seeing you with someone else makes me lose it.
“I messed up. I finally get how much you mean to me. Can’t you give me one more chance?
“I don’t care about the investment anymore. I just want you to come back.”
By now, people around us had started to watch the scene unfold.
A few of them, who clearly didn’t know the full story, began to join in. Come on, miss, forgive him! All men make mistakes, you know?”
“Yeah! He said you’re the love of his life. Don’t be so heartless!”
Two middle–aged men with round bellies chuckled like they were watching a soap opera.
Just then, a girl near them gave them a sharp look, then walked over to me and grabbed my hand.
“Only women truly understand what other women go through,” she said kindly. “You’ve clearly been hurt. Don’t fall for his tricks again.
“Men and their promises? Worthless! You’re better off standing on your own.”
I gave her a small smile and gently touched her hand to thank her.
Turning to Lucas, I looked him straight in the eyes. “I’m not going back with you, so don’t waste your breath.
“We’ve been married and divorced nine times–I’ve given you way more chances than you deserved.
“If you like taking Doris’s side so much, why don’t you two stay together? Honestly, watching the way you two act makes me sick!
“I don’t have feelings for you anymore, and whether you’re okay or not doesn’t matter to me. Maybe you’re only just realizing that, but it’s too late, Lucas. There’s no fixing what’s already broken.”
The light faded from his eyes immediately, and he just stood there, completely stunned.

Noticing his reaction, the guys who had been mocking earlier tried to slip away, but Jimmy casually stuck out his leg and sent both of them crashing to the floor.
“Oh no, didn’t see you there,” he said with a straight face. Sitting on the ground, the men started yelling.
“What’s your problem? Are you blind? Look how big we are!”
“My leg’s broken! You better pay for this–we’re not letting you go without compensation!”
But when they looked up and saw my tall and muscular brother, they went quiet in an instant.
One of them tried to bluff. “What are you looking at? You think we’re scared just because you’re tall? I’m telling you-”
Before he could finish, a van smashed through the café’s glass wall and charged straight toward us, crushing the two men on the floor in an instant.
“Sharon! You’re dead!”
It was Doris.
In the chaos, I tried to run but couldn’t. My legs were trapped between the table and chair–I was stuck.
