I was in a foul mood, closing my eyes, replaying the scene of Declan’s mocking gaze. When he parked downstairs, I went upstairs without a word. The living room lights were still on when I opened the door, Fiona was watching TV waiting for me. “Adeline! Why were you out so long? I just went to brush my teeth, and my brother hung up and you were gone.” I smiled, saying I went to the supermarket. Fiona wasn’t so easy to fool. She pinched my cheek, “Did you go see your ex–boyfriend?” I stared at her wide–eyed, unable to say a word. “I knew it! That player who broke our Adeline’s heart, if I see him, I’ll slap him! Make him regret it!” I mumbled weakly, “That might not be the best idea?” Fiona waved her hand dismissively, “What’s wrong with it?”
The next day, Fiona excitedly dragged me out shopping. She said her brother had softened up and even gave her more pocket money. “I’ve never seen my brother so agreeable.” I smiled, “How was he agreeable?” Fiona glanced at me, frowning slightly, “It’s a bit strange. I told him you were bullied by a player and I wanted to take you shopping, and he reinstated my card.” Me: ??? Fiona was using me as a scapegoat? Does she know that the player she talks about is actually her own
brother?
When you’re down, you’re really down. I ran into my ex–boyfriend at the jewelry store. Nolan, who betrayed me countless
times. He was holding a curvy woman, seriously picking out a diamond ring. I wondered which poor girl was unlucky
enough to take over from Nolan. When I snapped back, Nolan had already spotted Fiona and me. He raised an eyebrow, walking over to me, “Adeline, how have you been? The girl with him glanced at me, “Doesn’t look great, no boyfriend with you.”
