“Officer Palmer, is it true you released that lunatic? Marcus asked, visibly upset, as he walked out of the police station with Bella clinging to him.
Bella seemed frightened as she hide in Marcus’s embrace.
Marcus took off his coat and lovingly wrapped it around Bella. He asked, “Are you cold?”
Bella nodded weakly.
“Mr. Flynn, the suspect has a guardian who posted bail. They also mentioned that you can address any issues your friend may have, and they will cover all medical and other expenses. Zeke handed Marcus a business card.
Marcus glanced at the card. His expression changed before he frowned and muttered, “Russell Colton?”
The Coltons…
I stared at Marcus in astonishment. The Coltons?
The Coltons were at the pinnacle of the business world; they were the absolute wealthiest.
The Flynns couldn’t compare with them.
How could someone from the Coltons grow up in an orphanage and be mentally ill?
Thinking about Stephen’s identity, I couldn’t stop trembling.
With the Coltons‘ powerful backing, could he have gotten away with killing so many people because someone was covering
for him?
It turned out that someone was cleaning up his mess.
What now? Where has my body been? Would the truth about my death ever come to light?
“He’s… he’s a Colton?” Bella was equally stunned. It took a long time for her to speak again. “Someone from the Coltons is a lunatic! I never heard of that.”
Marcus frowned and spoke in a low voice, Three years ago, Russell’s eldest son, grandson, and granddaughter died in a car accident. The youngest son that survived has azoospermia, making him unable to father children or continue the family line. “Clearly, this madman must be of Colton blood; otherwise, Russell wouldn’t care so much about a lunatic.”
“Care?” Zeke sneered coldly and taunted. “If he really cared about that youngan, he wouldn’t let him wander around. They probably just want to keep him for the family line.”
Marcus said nothing, disinterested in the Coltons affairs and unwilling to get involved. He said, “Officer Palmer, since you’ve got this figured out, focus on the killer. You can stop worrying about Madeline”
Marcus opened the car door, holding the frame for Bella when she got inside
His every gesture showed his love and care for Bella.
“We’re getting married. She’ll definitely show up at the wedding. Marcus seemed confident.
I laughed bitterly. Marcus planned to use his wedding to lure me out.
“Congratulations,” Zeke said meaningfully as he looked at Marcus. “I hope this is just Madeline playing a prank, and she will show up at your wedding safe and sound.”
“Keep dreaming!” I stood by and mocked Marcus. I would never come back, and I would never show up before him again. Marcus got in the car and drove away.

Chapter 22 The Madman Murdered Someone Again
I stood there, not knowing where to go.
A wandering spirit–that’s what I had become.
Even in death, my soul had no idea where to go.
“Madeline, where are you?” Zeke glanced up at the sky and abruptly asked.
I turned to Zeke and said with a smile, “I’m dead. I don’t even know where my body is.

“Zeke! Something’s happened!” A young officer ran out of the station, panic–stricken. He revealed, “Another woman’s body was found by the Sinnach River. Same MO… red dress, frequented Nightfall Bar, sexually assaulted before death… suffocated.”
Zeke frowned. He threw his cigarette butt away and said, “God, d’mmit! What a b*stard!”
Furious, he lost control and smashed a nearby trash can. He hated his own helplessness as he failed to catch the killer.
So many innocent women had fallen prey.
The complete removal of the victim’s facial skin made identification impossible.”
Zeke calmed down. He stood in silence and said. “Let’s have a look.”
I followed Zeke in a panic. In my final moments, I remembered that the killer had tied
up
several other women.
Before I died. I saw several women in red dresses huddled in the corner.
There are survivors, Zeke. There are survivors. Go to that abandoned orphanage. Search that place!” I shouted anxiously belund Zeke.
There were still people around. The killer took one at a time, but he kept the rest tied up.
There must be survivors!
“Zeke! There are survivors!” I shouted, trying desperately to make him hear me, but it was useless.
We were like people from two different worlds. He couldn’t feel my presence.

It’s strange. This body contains an item that once belonged to Madeline. We identified the left wore the day she went missing,” a female officer returned from the scene and reported it to Zeke.
