Chapter 6
Leonard’s heart skipped a beat. He spun around quickly to see Isabelle passed out, her face deathly pale.
He immediately rushed to her, picked her up, and hurried to the hospital.
Through the commotion, Isabelle painfully forced her eyes open to see Leonard speaking with the doctor.
“My wife is pregnant, four months along. Be careful with the medication.”
When the nurse rolled her into the treatment room and lifted her shirt to check, she let out a surprised sound at Isabelle’s flat stomach.
Purchase completed
“Four months? Are you sure? She doesn’t look pregnant at all!”
As the nurse turned to double–check, Isabelle called out to her despite the
pain.
“Nurse, I lost the baby. Please keep this a secret. I want to tell my husband myself.”
Although she didn’t understand why, the nurse respected her wishes since miscarriages were sensitive matters between couples.
Without anesthesia, Isabelle nearly fainted from the pain during wound cleaning and medication.
The burning sensation from her wound pulled at her nerves, making even breathing incredibly difficult.

Her body was soaked with sweat, and every second was unbearably
torturous.
After the medication was applied, Isabelle was moved to a hospital room.
Leonard stayed by her bedside, apologizing repeatedly. “Bella, your burns are so severe. Why didn’t you call for me?”
Isabelle’s jaw ached from clenching her teeth. Her leg felt like it was on fire.
Her temperature kept rising, and she could barely squeeze out the words, “You left… too quickly.”
“It’s my fault. I’m sorry.”
The guilt in Leonard’s eyes deepened as he placed his hand in Isabelle’s tightly clenched palm.
Her sharp nails cut into the back of his hand, drawing blood.
She watched their blood mixing together as her consciousness faded, and she drifted off to sleep.
When she woke up again, it was the middle of the night.
Isabelle groggily opened her eyes and saw Anora’s back.
“You’re burned too. Go get your wounds treated now. I’ll look after Bella.
“No, I’m afraid she’ll be upset if she wakes up and I’m not here. I’ll get treated tomorrow.”
Anora’s voice suddenly rose several notches.
“I said go now! Leonard, don’t joke with your health!”

Hearing this, Leonard’s furrowed brow instantly relaxed.
He grabbed Anora’s hand. “Anora, stop denying it. You still have feelings for me, don’t you? Just admit it, and I’ll leave everything behind. We can be together again, okay?”
Anora realized her slip and quickly pulled her hand away.
Seeing her flustered expression, Leonard couldn’t help but smile. “Alright, I won’t pressure you. I have plenty of time to wait for you to come around. I’ll listen to you and get my wounds treated now.”
With that, he left with light steps.
During their three years together, in Isabelle’s mind, Leonard had always been the one in control.
No matter how angry she got or what jokes she made, he always treated her like a child, humoring her.
He was always rational, calm, mature, and collected, wearing a mask that never revealed his true self.
She thought that was just his nature.
But now she realized he could lose control of his emotions too.
He could become angry and lose control at Anora’s cold remarks, could light up at signs of her care, and could obey his lover unconditionally like a young boy experiencing first love.
Isabelle had never seen this side of Leonard.
She was stunned watching him, and when she came to her senses, she met Anora’s gaze.

Noticing the fleeting panic in her eyes, Isabelle spoke first. “Anora, where’s Leonard?”
Seeing that she hadn’t heard their conversation, Anora sighed in relief. “He went to get his wounds treated. If you’re feeling uncomfortable. anywhere, just tell me.”
The burning pain still tortured Isabelle.
But she held it in, shaking her head. “I’m fine. You should go rest.”
Anora didn’t leave. She poured Isabelle a glass of water.
After a few concerned questions, she asked Isabelle something.
“Bella, did you hear anything before you passed out yesterday?”
Isabelle’s hand, holding the water glass, paused, but she met Anora’s probing gaze directly. “No, I didn’t.”
She told this lie with a straight face.
Partly to ease Anora’s suspicions.
And partly to tell herself to forget those words.
After all, she was about to disappear from their lives completely.
