Chapter 6
Violet touched her barely visible stomach with a smug smile.
To her surprise, she noticed that the women behind her had all changed their expressions.
They hurried upstairs and within minutes had packed their bags and fled the Kensington’s residence.
Violet couldn’t understand. Wasn’t pregnancy supposed to give her leverage over Adrian?
Why were they all panicking?
The next second, Adrian grabbed her and threw her against the corner of the wall.
The sharp pain in her back made her gasp, while Adrian stood there calmly, his expression cold and severe.
When he spoke, his words were devastating.
“Mrs. Parker, call Dr. Watson to come to the house for an abortion.”
This simple sentence proved that such incidents weren’t uncommon in the Kensington residence.
What Violet didn’t know was that I used to handle these situations for him.
Adrian never allowed any woman to bear his child.
Including me.

Just two months after our wedding, I discovered I was pregnant.
Afraid that Adrian would harm me and the baby, I tried to escape, but no matter how I tried, Adrian always caught me.
During one struggle, I miscarried.
That day, Adrian’s bloodshot eyes were filled with hatred toward me. He called me heartless and cruel.
But I still don’t understand—he was the one who caused the miscarriage, so why was I the heartless one?
Violet was just as confused as I had been back then, so she knelt on the ground pleading, “No, I don’t want to abort this baby.
“Adrian, didn’t you say you loved me? You said you cherished me the most. Why won’t you let me have this child?”
Adrian turned his head with downcast eyes, flashing contempt and disdain.
“Love?
“You think you deserve that?”
Violet stared into those deep eyes and felt her whole body tremble with fear.
Adrian instructed Mrs. Parker to take care of Violet, then drove away himself.
He had more important matters to attend to.
Mrs. Parker sighed, coaxing Violet to wait at home for the doctor.

When I woke up, Ethan was by my side.
The morning light shone on his hair, refracting different colors.

I instinctively reached out to touch it but heard Ethan having a nightmare.
“Sophie, run!”
Sophie?
My outstretched hand froze midair. Was Sophie me?
Ethan stirred, and I quickly withdrew my hand, pretending to be asleep.
But my fluttering eyelashes betrayed me.
“Awake but pretending to sleep?”
His voice was deep with a hint of morning gruffness, which sounded somewhat adorable.
I couldn’t help but laugh, and when I opened my eyes, I fell into his tender gaze.
“Get up. The chef downstairs made your favorite vanilla custard pudding ”
Ethan pulled me up from the bed and affectionately patted my head.
Vanilla custard pudding…
As a child, I loved my grandmother’s custard pudding, but after she passed away, I never visited the countryside again.
The pudding made in the city never tasted the same.

I sat at the dining table looking at the pudding in front of me and took a spoonful.
The moment it touched my tongue, I was transported back to those hot days spent in the countryside.
“This taste! How is it exactly like my grandmother’s?”
Ethan smiled gently, saying only that it was a secret.
I chuckled and finished the pudding. When I looked up, a car had crashed through the wall and driven right up to the courtyard.
Through the ruins, I watched Adrian get out of the car.
“Ethan, get out here!”
A group of bodyguards blocked Adrian outside, but he roared like an out- of–control beast.
I knew Adrian had come for me.
I didn’t want to cause Ethan any trouble, so I stood up.
But Ethan grabbed my hand tightly, our fingers interlaced.
“I’ll go with you.”
