Chapter 9
The man handed me several crumpled photos, a diary, and a phone, pushing them into my arms.
I stared at the wrinkled photos that clearly showed me with this man
called Adrian.
“This is you and me?”
Could I really be married to the man standing before me?
Why didn’t I feel anything when I saw him?
I opened the yellowed diary. It documented my romance with Adrian from ten years ago.
Every page overflowed with my love for him and his attentiveness toward
- me.
The sweetness between a young couple leaped off the pages.
“The notes on this phone also record our daily life together.”
Skeptically, I opened the phone and checked each note. They were indeed all related to Adrian.
A dull pain suddenly hit my chest. My hand trembled as I opened the drafts folder.
A deleted note contained a list of ten women’s names and their preferences.
I paused, pointing at the note. “What is this…”

Adrian looked guilty and deleted it again.
“Adrian, you say we’ve been together for over ten years, but why do we only have memories from ten years ago?
“Haven’t we been together these past few years?”
Adrian avoided my eyes, unable to answer.
I sighed and flipped to the blank pages at the end of the diary. There I discovered my own farewell note, explaining the ten–year gap.
“It detailed all the harm Adrian had caused me over those ten years.”
The things he’d done were truly terrible.
As I read the densely packed handwriting, tears fell uncontrollably.
“It felt like those events were happening again right before my eyes.” “Adrian, are these true too?”
I held up the diary with shaking hands, Adrian’s face turned deathly pale.
He wanted to explain but couldn’t find the words.
“Maybe I did love you once. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have stayed by your side for ten years, willing to endure all that pain.
“But now, I really don’t love you anymore.”
“Goodbye, Adrian.”
I wiped away my tears and stood up, but Adrian pulled me into his arms.
“Sophia, please don’t leave me.
“These ten years, I’ve truly realized my mistakes.

Chapter 9
Adrian ignored my resistance and pressed his body against mine.
I screamed and struggled, my clothes torn in the process. Just as I reached the point of despair, a figure appeared.
Ethan grabbed Adrian and rained blows on him.
Until security pulled them apart.
Ethan was seeing red as he warned Adrian, “You wait–your entire family will pay for this!”
I hugged Ethan, trying to calm him down.
He held me tight and comforted me gently.
After the engagement party, I never saw Adrian again. I heard the Kensington family disappeared overnight.
It was as if Adrian had never existed.
Everyone gossiped that the Harrington heir had flown into a rage for his beloved, but no one knew who the woman was.
They only said she resembled Adrian’s former wife.
From then on, Sophia no longer existed–only Sophie.
Sophie had no painful memories and wouldn’t suffer heartache.
She was extremely doted on by Ethan.
A few years later, Ethan and I had our own child. At the baby’s one- month celebration, I received a small pink dress.
The card was signed “Ten Years.”

Looking at the pink dress, my eyes grew warm.
“Come over for the family photo!”
Ethan waved at me. I threw the pink dress and card into the trash.
A new life shouldn’t be tied to the past.
Brave people must keep moving forward, never looking back.
