Chapter 12 Determination
Eileen didn’t reply.
She lay in the bathtub. her fingers touching her lower belly.
It was quiet, and she didn’t feel anything.
She had booked an abortion, but she still had some hopes for the baby as a mother.
Lately, she had skipped makeup, high heels, and alcohol, and had only taken a tiny sip of coffee.
If only all of this was just a dream. When she woke up. she could throw herself into Fremont’s arms without any worries and softly tell him that she was finally pregnant.
But now, all these things were pushing her away.
She couldn’t even find a way to fix them.
Eileen grabbed a warm towel and put it over her eyes so the tears. wouldn’t come out.
She had been with Fremont for years. A few years ago, she thought about telling everyone who her husband was.
When she won her first Best Actress award. Fremont’s career had just started to pick up. He felt he wasn’t good enough for her and asked her to keep their relationship quiet.
Later, when he became successful, he still wanted to keep their marriage a
secret
He never lied about being married in public. but nobody knew who his wife really was.
Eileen had helped him go from being nobody to somebody, but in the end. Chelsea got all the credit.
Just seeing their names together felt like someone had stabbed her heart.
Even though there was no blood, it hurt like hell. She curled up in the empty bathroom, crying and letting out all her feelings.
That night, Eileen didn’t know how she fell asleep.
Lying on the big bed, she stared at the wedding photo.
She had actually photoshopped it herself. After she quit showbiz, every time she tried to schedule a photo shoot with Fremont, he was too busy to find the time.
One night, he held her and promised, “Honey, one day I’ll give you a big, beautiful wedding where everyone can see how happy we are.
Later, she got busy trying to get pregnant. She always went to the hospital and changed medications.
This had worn her out, and she stopped talking about the photo shoot.
Maybe her fate with Fremont was set in stone, and they were always meant to be a sad story.
She put her hand on her lower belly. In this world, besides her grandma, this baby was the closest person to her.
“Baby, let me love you for twenty more days,” she murmured.
When the sky was about to get light, Eileen heard the water running in the bathroom.
A little bit of light was coming through the gap in the blackout curtains
Fremont pulled back the covers and lay down next to her, and the air smelled like fresh body wash.
He hugged her from behind, like nothing had happened, and he sounded. tired.
“Honey, as soon as it’s light out, Alfred will send in Chelsea’s immigration papers. Once they’re approved, you’ll never have to see her again.”
Eileen didn’t move, her voice flat. “I saw the news.”
The warm body behind her got a little stiff.
If Fremont wanted to clear things up or take the news back, he would have done it last night.
But he didn’t do anything. The official announcement video was still on the company’s account.
So in his heart, work was more important than her.
What exactly had she been expecting?
Did she really think his world only revolved around her?
There was some truth to the saying that women were emotional while men were rational.
Eileen was willing to give up her career for Fremont back then, but now he made her suffer for the sake of his future.
She wasn’t wrong for wanting a divorce.
Lately, when she woke up in the middle of the night, she wondered if she could forgive him if he made Chelsea have an abortion and came back to
her.
But now, she was even clearer about her place in his heart
In this world, there was nothing more important than power and success
Fremont put his arms around Eileen’s waist. “Eily, I know you’re upset, Chelsea somehow got mixed up with Ursula, and Ursula was the one who posted that news. If I clarify it now, it’ll plunge the company into a mess of rumors, causing a lot of trouble and negative impact.
“You know how important the deal with Cameron is. It’s not just about me. The R&D Development has been working overtime for a long time. If we mess up the deal now, it won’t just be about a drop in shares. It’s about everyone’s hard work and dedication.”
His voice was dripping with exhaustion. “I’m sorry, it’s my fault. Trust me, once I sign the contract with Cameron and Chelsea is out of the country. no one will come between us again.”
A beam of golden sunlight broke through the clouds and streamed through the gap, casting its light onto the large bed.
Eileen reached out and touched it. her voice soft. “Fremont, it’s daylight
now.
So, it was time to wake up from the dream.
Fremont didn’t want to let his sister down, waste the team’s hard work. make the company take the blame, or hurt pregnant Chelsea.
That left only one person to suffer–his wife.
The place that had been hurt last night was ripped open again. Eileen’s heart felt empty, as if the wind had swept right through it.
It felt cool, and in the end, all that was left was numbness.
”
Fremont hadn’t been sleeping well these past few days. It was only with Eileen’s scent around him that he finally fell into a deep sleep.
He had a dream.
In the dream. Eileen was in a gorgeous dress, holding a trophy, and lifting her skirt as she ran towards him with a big smile.
“Monty. I finally did it! I’m the Best Actress now!”
He spun her around in his arms, but his eyes were filled with loneliness.
He was afraid that she would become more successful. She was so bright and dazzling, and he would be left in the dust.
So he had to work even harder to keep up with her.
The scene shifted, and Eileen was no longer the Best Actress. Her hair was loosely tied up, and she was wearing a white cotton dress as she ran towards him from the rose garden.
“Monty, you’re home.”
“Honey.”
He hugged her tight, but she turned into countless white butterflies and flew away in an instant.
Fremont opened his eyes. The large bed was empty except for him, and the sense of loss and loneliness he felt in the dream was all too real.
He got up and walked downstairs. Helga was cleaning the room.
“Where’s my wife?” he asked casually while putting on his watch.
Helga, who was usually helpful, didn’t even look up today. She asked in a snarky way, “Which wife are you asking about?”
She always kept up with celebrity news, so she had seen the news too.
“I only have one wife,” Fremont said firmly.
“Well, we’ll see about that. Didn’t you watch the fireworks with someone else last night? So romantic. All those fireworks were set off just like that.”
Fremont felt a headache coming on. Since Helga had always been very dedicated, he didn’t get mad. “What’s there to cat in the kitchen?”
“Beef bone broth, mushroom barley soup, lentil soup, and pumpkin soup.”
Fremont frowned a little. “Why is it all soup?”
“Aren’t you worn out from playing both sides? I made it to help you recharge.”
Fremont was left speechless.
After searching the whole villa, he still couldn’t find Eileen.
So he had no choice but to call her. The robotic female voice on the other end said, “Sorry, the subscriber you dialed cannot be connected for the
moment…”
He held the phone tight, his knuckles turning white, and asked coldly, “Where has Eileen gone?”
