He’s My One True Love 5

He's My One True Love 5

Sarah froze for a moment.
While Grace continued tidying up, she quickly rummaged through the pile of clothes and threw on something decent.
But as she sifted through her things, she realized—there was very little here she actually liked.
Most of it had been bought because she thought Shane would like it. Even the clothes he’d gifted her were picked to suit his taste.
And more and more, she noticed—they matched Nora’s style exactly.
After getting dressed, Sarah picked out a few items and told Grace, “List the rest on a secondhand app. Sell them.”
If they were things other people liked—she didn’t want them anymore.
She threw on some light makeup and rushed to the office.
No one at the company knew about her relationship with Shane. According to him, it was because he didn’t like mixing business with pleasure.
As his secretary, she kept up the act too. They pretended not to know each other at work.
Only in quiet corners would Shane pull her onto the desk and get close.
But she was good at her job—really good. She’d closed many deals for him. Because of that, her coworkers respected her.
Everyone called her “Ms. Sarah.”
But when she arrived that day, the office was buzzing with cheer.
Nora stood in the center of it all, dressed in business attire, long waves cascading over her shoulders, chatting and smiling as if she belonged.
Beside her stood Shane—tall, striking as ever, his signature fox eyes glinting with amusement.
She heard him say, “Nora’s one of us now. Please take care of her.”
For Shane to personally ask everyone to look after a new employee—especially a woman—it didn’t go unnoticed.
Someone joked, “Boss, you’ve never done this before. What’s the occasion?”
Nora blushed and gave Shane a playful glance. “Don’t tease. Mr. Shane and I are just friends. And I’m sure I’m not the only one he’s ever gone out of his way for.”
She turned to Shane. “Right?”
Laughter rippled around them.
Sarah stood in the distance, unsure what to do.
She hadn’t expected Shane to bring Nora into the company—let alone treat her so specially.
She pressed her lips together and forced herself forward.
Stopping at Shane’s side, she greeted him, “Mr. Shane.”
He turned and saw her. For a split second, the ever-calm smile on his face froze.
Someone chimed in, “Sarah, perfect timing! Mr. Shane’s introducing the new colleague.”
Another teased, “Sarah, we were just saying how Mr. Shane’s never treated anyone like this before. You’ve been with him the longest—ever seen him go this far for anyone?”
Sarah smiled faintly. “No. This is the first time.”
When the crowd finally dispersed, a younger coworker Sarah was close with grabbed her hand, clearly upset.
“Sarah, did you hear? Not only did Mr. Shane bring her in, he gave her your promotion.”
Sarah blinked. “What do you mean?”
“She got the secretary supervisor position,” the girl said. “Mr. Shane said you wouldn’t mind.”
Sarah’s lips twitched.
Once again, he was giving her things away—gifting her efforts like borrowed flowers.
The truth was, she did mind. She valued every bit of success she’d earned.
She had pulled countless all-nighters, toiled in silence, burning the midnight oil just so she wouldn’t be seen as a burden. Just so she wouldn’t be looked down on.
After hitting every metric, this promotion was supposed to be hers.
But Shane had said—she wouldn’t mind.
Her lips curved into a bitter smile. She thanked the girl and headed for Shane’s office.
Nora was there too.
They were sitting close—so close, her hair was practically brushing against Shane’s face.
They were reading the same document.
As soon as Sarah entered, Shane straightened and said, “You can go back for now.”
Nora gave a sweet nod and left, even thoughtfully closing the door behind her.
The air in the office suddenly turned cold.
Sarah stared at the desk without a word.
Shane leaned in, his face dangerously charming, and wrapped his hand around her waist, lifting her onto the desk. “Missed me?”
He rested his chin against her collarbone and sighed.
The intimacy of the moment only made Sarah feel numb.
The cold edge of the desk dug into her back, her eyes clear and steady as she asked flatly, “What’s going on with Nora?”
Shane let her go. “She lost her job. As a friend, I just opened a backdoor for her.”
Sarah stared at him silently.
When Shane let out an annoyed tsk, she finally spoke—voice like ice. “So, you gave her the position I spent so long working for? For this promotion, I…”
Shane’s relaxed eyes darkened slightly. The warmth around him faded.
“Sarah, don’t be childish,” he cut her off. “I’ve never seen you show this much interest in the role. Why take it out on Nora? There are plenty of other positions for you to choose from.”
But it wasn’t the same.
Bitter sadness rose in Sarah’s chest. She looked at his indifferent expression and sighed deeply.
“Fine,” she said. “She can have it.”
And you—I’ll let her have you, too.
Shane didn’t notice the change in her. He leaned closer and brushed the hair from her face, still smiling gently.
“Sarah, don’t feel bad,” he said with a soft chuckle. “It’s just a title. You’re going to be the company’s future boss lady. This little position isn’t worth fighting over.”
Sarah looked him straight in the eye. “Are you sure I’m the company’s future boss lady?”
And not Nora?
Shane froze slightly, his gaze turning serious. “Of course. Who else would it be?”
“Oh, right.”
He picked up a folder from the desk. “This client—you already secured them, right? Just need a signature now?”
“Yeah.”
“Perfect. Nora needs a client to establish herself. Why not hand this one over to her, my dear future boss lady?”
Sarah stared at the contract in silence.
This client had taken her three months to land. She’d nearly given herself an ulcer drinking through endless rounds of business dinners.
She’d been humiliated and pushed around to make this happen.
And Shane knew that.
And still, he asked her to give it away.
Because, deep down, her efforts never really mattered to him.
After a long pause, Sarah looked down and quietly nodded.
“Alright,” she said.
Shane beamed—more dazzling than ever.
He leaned in, brushing her cheek with his fingers. That jasmine scent lingered on him. His fox-like eyes gleamed.
“Sarah, I love how mature you’ve become. Compared to three years ago, I like this version of you even more.”
Sarah suddenly broke into a bright smile. “Really? Then I’ll be this mature from now on.”
