Chapter 19 Not the End
Where had he gone?
Sarah sat quietly in the emergency ward’s hallway, waiting patiently for Paul to return.
But five minutes later, it wasn’t Paul who came back–it was Grayson.
The moment he stopped in front of her, Sarah’s eyes snapped up.
Seeing him, she froze for a second. “Mr. Grayson? What are you doing here? Where’s Paul?”

“He said you asked him for help, but his hand’s still injured. So he asked me to come handle your admission.” Grayson looked down at her. “Send me your information. Sit here and wait.”
“Okay.”
A wave of gratitude flooded Sarah’s eyes.
She hadn’t expected Grayson to help her again.
What he’d done for her now went far beyond any debt that could be repaid with money.
After settling the paperwork, Grayson returned.
A nurse arrived with a wheelchair to take Sarah to her room.
“Ms. Sarah, do you think you can get up?” The nurse glanced at her ankle. “Do you need help getting in?”.
“I think so… Sorry for the trouble-”
Before she could finish, her feet left the ground.
Startled, Sarah realized she was already in Grayson’s arms.
Her heart jumped to her throat.
Other than Shane, he was the only man who had ever carried her like this.
Her eyes were drawn to his face–the sharp jawline, the cool, commanding presence etched into every line.
Grayson gently placed her in the wheelchair, then pushed her forward.
He looked to the nurse. “Lead the way.”
Overwhelmed by his presence, the nurse quickly nodded. “Yes, of course.”
Once Sarah was settled in her room, Grayson stood up from the chair. “A nurse aide will come take care of you. She’ll stay by your side.”
“Thank you… for helping me so many times. I’ll never forget it. I just don’t know how I’ll repay you.”
“Then owe me. You can pay it back when the time comes.”
His voice was quiet, his face still unreadably calm.
Sarah nodded slowly, the corners of her lips curling into a faint, awkward smile.

Grayson looked down at her, his tone casual: “So, are you really done with Shane?”
Sarah raised her head, meeting his gaze.

She blinked, then teased, “Mr. Grayson’s this interested in my personal life? Anyone overhearing might think you’re trying to steal someone’s girl.”
At her words, Grayson, who had been about to leave, sat back down at the edge of the bed.
His expression was unreadable. “And what if I am?”
Sarah was stunned, locking eyes with him.
There was something in his gaze she couldn’t quite decipher.
She looked away and chuckled. “Then I’m afraid you’d be disappointed. I’m just a regular person. I can’t move on that quickly from something that lasted three years. Besides…”
Besides, she had already decided to go home and get married.
Grayson’s dark eyes narrowed slightly.
He gently hooked his fingers around her wrist. “You’re… scared?”
Sarah froze, her lashes trembling.
Scared? Not exactly.
But she had poured everything into Shane for three years. She’d given her all.
Even though she chose to end it, she couldn’t pretend it meant nothing. Not yet. She’d chosen marriage–likely a quiet, polite arrangement, nothing passionate. Grayson studied her carefully, eyes clouded with thought
Then, unexpectedly, he let out a soft laugh.
“You’re not someone who settles. Not because of pain, not because of fear.”
His voice was deep and low, warm and steady. “The you I’ve seen isn’t like that at all.”
She had always been a blooming rose–bold and vivid.
Neither Shane nor anyone else should ever be allowed to dull her light.
He paused again, a subtle smile lifting the edge of his lips. “Besides, maybe you just haven’t met the right person yet. Maybe that person will show up soon.”
Sarah looked up, meeting his softened gaze. Her heart skipped a beat.
She smiled. “Maybe.”
“It’s late. Get some rest. I’ve got a few things to take care of, but I’ll come see you when I can.”
Grayson stood, then instinctively reached forward, gently tugging her blanket up a little more.
