“She doesn’t want to go with you.”

Shane’s expression darkened, his peach blossom eyes turning sharp. “Grayson, this is a personal matter. Maybe you shouldn’t stick your nose in.”
Grayson remained still.
He glanced down at Sarah. When she gave a slight shake of her head, he said calmly, “So Mr. Shane enjoys coercing people now? Is juggling two women your thing?”
Nora panicked. “That’s not what this is-”
But the moment her eyes met Grayson’s icy gaze, her voice caught in her throat and she fell silent.
Tension hung thick in the air. After a long beat, Shane finally dialed back his tone and turned to Sarah. “Sarah, you’ve thrown enough of a tantrum. But you can’t keep neglecting work. Are you still not planning to return to the branch office?”
Sarah’s brow twitched.
Return to work?
Hadn’t she made it perfectly clear in her letter that she was resigning?
Nora stiffened, her heart skipping a beat, though she kept her expression carefully composed. She stepped forward with feigned concern and chimed in, “Yes, Sarah, the company’s door is always open to you. Don’t act out like this anymore. A woman needs to have her own career–don’t rely on a man. Especially not someone… of uncertain background.”
As she spoke, her gaze drifted meaningfully toward Grayson.
Sarah lifted her eyes and calmly looked at the woman in front of her.
She had heard every implication in Nora’s words–and couldn’t help but laugh.
Grayson raised an eyebrow, then drawled lazily, “I’m not exactly some mystery man. Jùst Ms. Sarah’s suitor. And if she’s willing, I don’t mind being her… mistress.”
His voice was low and smooth, his bearing composed and elegant.
Shane’s brow furrowed deeply.
Grayson–heir to the Fu family, a man with immense power in Capital City–was saying this?
What was he playing at?
Sarah, meanwhile, simply curled her lips into a smile.
With a flick of her gaze, she replied slowly, “Come on now. With a face like Mr. Grayson’s, how could he ever be the mistress? He’s clearly first wife material.”
As her words fell, Shane’s chest burned with a fury he couldn’t extinguish.
His voice dropped, cold and sharp. “Even if you want to spite me, this isn’t the way. You’re a woman–have some self–respect.”

Chapter 21 No Turning Back
Sarah could only feel the irony of it all.
Shane had always looked down at her from above, acting like everything he said was for her own good.
“Mr. Shane, who I am now has nothing to do with you.”
“Then who does it have to do with?” Shane pointed toward Grayson. “Him? You’re really going to drag him into this just to get back at me? You’re being ridiculous.”
His eyes were fixed on Grayson, cold and accusatory.
He knew Sarah understood how much he hated Grayson. Was that why she was standing beside him now–to provoke him?
Sarah’s tone turned even icier. “That’s my business. If the two of you have nothing else to say, we’ll be leaving
now.”
Shane’s eyes glinted with irritation.
Grayson, by contrast, wore his same faint, unbothered smile, as though none of this touched him.
Just then, Nora stepped in front of Sarah and Shane, putting on the face of a peacekeeper.
“Sarah, Shane’s just worried about you. Don’t say things that can’t be taken back. Don’t ruin the peace between you two.”
Sarah shot her a glance full of disdain.
Peace?
They had already broken up–what peace was left to ruin?
Her voice was cold, each word sharp as frost. “You’re the last person who should be meddling in my life.” Nora’s face paled, then flushed with color.
Shane’s irritation deepened.
He pulled Nora aside and stared Sarah down. “I’ll give you three days. Think carefully about what you’re doing. Think about how I raised you.”
“I’m not a child anymore. And since Mr. Shane already has someone new, you’d best stay out of my life.”
Her beautiful face was calm–entirely detached.
Shane’s brows tightened.
He shot one last look between Sarah and Grayson, then, face dark as stone, turned and led Nora into the hospital.
Sarah watched them walk away, her expression devoid of emotion.
After they disappeared from sight, Grayson stepped forward and let out a soft chuckle.
“Ms. Sarah,” he said, eyes dancing with amusement, “so this face of mine–really good enough to be first wife material?”
