Together, they exited the car. Together, they rode the elevator. It was oddly domestic–like a husband and wife returning home after a long night.
At her door, Sarah spoke first.
“My phone’s broken. I’ll buy a new one tomorrow and transfer you the money for today.”
Grayson’s voice was cool. “Do I look like I care about a hundred bucks?”
Finally–finally–he spoke, and Sarah felt her heart unclench.
His silence had been making her uneasy.
She smiled faintly. “Then thank you, Mr. Grayson. If there’s ever anything I can do for you, I’ll repay you
however I can.”
Grayson’s gaze swept over her, tone flat: “Open the door.”
Startled, Sarah instinctively unlocked her door.

Chapter 30 What You Deserve
Grayson walked into her apartment as if it were his own, calmly switching into the indoor slippers by the door.
Turning back, he noticed Sarah still standing in place and urged, “Come in. I’ll help you with the medicine.”
Sarah hesitated for a beat.
The worst of the injury was at the back of her head–it wasn’t easy to reach. After a moment of thought, she stepped inside.
She grabbed a floor cushion and sat in front of him.
“You’re a really good person, Mr. Grayson,” she said sincerely.
At that, Grayson gave a low hum. “Is that your version of a ‘nice guy‘ card?”
“No,” she corrected him immediately. “I genuinely think you’re a good person.”
In her life, she hadn’t met many truly good people.
She used to think her luck was just bad.
But ever since she left Shane, she realized–it wasn’t her luck. It was him.
He said he’d protect her from wind and rain, but he’d turned out to be the storm itself.
She tugged at her lips, half in irony, half in reflection.
“Tss-”
The cool sting of the antiseptic on her scalp made her suck in a sharp breath.
Grayson frowned, and his hands became noticeably gentler.
The pain faded, but the room grew unusually quiet.
To break the silence, Sarah switched on the TV and began watching her favorite variety show, laughing aloud at a segment.
Grayson let out a disapproving click of his tongue. “Keep squirming and I’ll jab the cotton swab into the wound.”
Sarah instantly stilled–but couldn’t quite stop giggling.
Time passed.
Then came Grayson’s question–quiet, yet abrupt:
“You still like Shane?”
“No.”
She replied without thinking, distracted by the TV, her voice still carrying traces of laughter.
But the moment she answered, her smile faded.

“… But forgetting someone isn’t that simple,” she admitted. “I need time.”
Thirteen days.
That’s what she had left.
She didn’t want to carry the rot of this failed relationship into her future marriage.
She would see Shane one last time. Say goodbye properly.
After that, it would all be over.
Grayson sensed her mood dip, and didn’t press the topic further.
He cleaned up the used cotton swabs and stood.
“Get some rest.”
“Okay, Mr. Grayson.”
She walked him to the door.
After he left, she turned back and glanced at the spot on the couch where he had just been.
She let out a soft laugh.

Even a stranger like him could be this considerate–yet Shane, after five years, had never even come close.
She had spent five years feeding a dog.
Her
eyes ianded on the table, where Simone Corp’s file still lay.
Her expression darkened.
After last night, she had completely offended Henry.
The project… was truly done.
AS THEY MEANSONTE SEL
The next morning, after confirming the swelling had gone down, Sarah went out, bought a new phone, replaced her SIM card, and headed straight to the office.
The moment she walked in, her coworkers lit up, faces full of anticipation.
Nora strode over, all smiles. “Sarah, you’re here! So–did you seal the deal with Henry? I just knew you could do it.”
Her over–the–top praise made the room buzz with excitement.
“Sarah is amazing.”
“The company falls apart without her.”
Voices chirped in celebration, giving Sarah no chance to speak.
!
Suddenly, Nora’s tone shifted, just loud enough for everyone to hear. Her gaze flicked toward the doorway before returning to Sarah.

“Sarah is really something,” she said, sweet voice tinged with ice. “I mean, to get Henry to sign? Some talents, I guess, I just don’t have.”
It sounded like a compliment.
But it wasn’t.
Sarah was about to explain that she hadn’t closed the deal when she felt a wave of pressure behind her.
“You got Henry to sign?” Shane’s voice drifted over, calm on the surface, but his narrowed eyes betrayed his anger.
His peach blossom eyes were fixed on her, smiling–but the colder he smiled, the more furious he was.
Sarah instinctively stepped back. “I hit Henry. The project’s dead.”
Gasps erupted around the room.
Then a snide voice cut through the air: “Seriously? All that fuss, and she failed anyway?”
Sarah turned toward the speaker, tone light. “Then why don’t you go?”
Silence.
No one wanted to face Henry.
The mood turned stiff. Nora stepped in with a sympathetic smile, trying to smooth it over.
“It’s okay, Sarah. Don’t blame yourself. With someone like Henry, it’s understandable if the deal doesn’t work out. No one’s blaming you. But…”
She paused, then continued in a saccharine voice:
“…you really shouldn’t have hit him. It makes the whole company look unprofessional. Rough, even.”
