Julian and Maverick spent the night sleepless
The next day, instead of attending the freshman orientation with their classmates, they headed to the administration office.
The administrator frowned deeply, repeatedly asking:
“Isn’t Stanford good enough? Why withdraw? Do you want to waste all those years of hard work in high school?”
“You need to understand that Stanford and Harvard are equally prestigious. Either choice is excellent for your future development. Moreover, this environment is more suitable for your career paths,”
The administrator tried every argument to retain these two golden students.
However, Julian responded coldly: “Ma’am, with my intelligence, getting into any university is effortless. If she’s not here, I have no reason to stay.”
Maverick added: “Same here. The SATS are just a minor challenge if I actually focus. I can’t be separated from her.”
The administrator wavered uncertainly.
Just then, Rose stood outside the door, having heard everything.
She had thought that with all three of them at Stanford and only Hazel absent, this was her opportunity.
Yet now, they were withdrawing from school for Hazel!
“No! Julian, Maverick, please don’t withdraw! I don’t want to be separated from you. Can’t you see me standing right here? Please?”
“I’m begging you, can’t you see someone besides Hazel? I’m just as good as her, and I love you both more!”
Rose cried out with determination, her face on the verge of tears.
Julian and Maverick’s expressions grew increasingly disgusted as they heard her words.
The office fell into deathly silence.
After a long pause, Julian broke it first.
“Rose, I remember what you promised us before.”
At these words, Rose’s blood ran cold.
Maverick, barely containing his fury, dragged her out of the office.
The next moment, his fist flew through the air, smashing into the wall beside her.
Plaster crumbled and fell on Rose’s shoulders.

But in the instant his fist had come toward her, her heart had momentarily stopped.
“Rose, we had an agreement. You were supposed to help us make Hazel jealous, and you promised you wouldn’t develop inappropriate feelings for us. That’s why we chose you.”
Maverick’s voice was ice–cold, his eyes bloodshot with anger.
Julian’s crisp voice followed: “You promised to help us pursue Hazel. What happened?”
“You used us to drive Hazel away, and now you want to confess to us?”
“I warned you more than once not to develop inappropriate feelings. Now what should we do about this?”
Their accusations pinned Rose to the wall like a butterfly on display, as if waiting for execution.
Her panic reached its peak, her lips trembling too much to form complete sentences.
During this time, she had become addicted to their kindness, completely forgetting their original agreement.
She remembered when she first met Julian and Maverick, finding them breathtakingly attractive.
Hazel had repeatedly introduced her to them.
Rose had witnessed firsthand how much they valued and protected Hazel.
Gradually, she developed a sense of greed.
She thought: If they looked at me with those adoring eyes, if they cared for me like that, I’d probably be the happiest person in
the world.
How pathetic would Hazel look then?
Just imagining it excited Rose.
She dreamed of replacing Hazel, becoming Hazel, seeing Hazel fall from grace.
So she made a bold decision.
