“That can’t be! Ms. Schultz called me this morning. How could she suddenly lose her voice?”
“But she’s been preparing for this celebration for a long time. If it wasn’t something serious, why wouldn’t she show up?”
“Maybe she made it up to quit and walk away from her role?”

For a while, voices filled the hall as people kept whispering to each other.
Still, there were doubts on their faces.
Jayden was enjoying the spotlight, full of pride as he spoke boldly with a cheerful face.
I took a breath and stepped into the banquet hall.
As soon as he saw me, he froze, and a flicker of panic crossed his face.
He rushed over, saying, “Didn’t I tell you to rest? I’m handling everything. Don’t be stressed.”
His voice was soft, pretending to be caring.
Just as I wanted to speak, he cut me off.
“Relax. I’ll reward everyone properly. Just sit and enjoy the food, alright?”
I responded to him coldly, “This is my family’s event. It’s not your turn to take charge.”

Fear spread across Jayden’s face.
He nervously touched my cheek and mumbled, “Did she not use enough drugs? Or maybe it hasn’t kicked in yet?”
I asked sarcastically, “What’s supposed to kick in?”
Noticing my expression, he tried to cover it up.
“It’s nothing. You sounded off yesterday. I thought the medicine you took didn’t work-”
Before he could finish, Nicole staggered in.
Jayden’s eyes widened in shock.
Even without looking, I could tell how bad her condition was.
In the morning, I only wanted to check if Jayden and Elisa were still doing anything intimate.
But I never expected to find all three of them hiding on the guest room balcony, making plans.
When I discovered they intended to drug me again to make me act foolish, I immediately became cautious.
So, when Nicole brought me the coffee and offered it kindly, I sensed something was off about it.
As soon as I took the cup, I signaled the driver to hold Nicole down.
Right before her shocked eyes, I forced the hot coffee into her mouth.
She fought to push the driver off and then collapsed to the ground, vomiting.

Sadly, the drug started working as soon as it entered her body.
Even if she made herself throw up, the drug’s effect wouldn’t go away.
Her pitiful state didn’t lessen my anger at all.
I looked at Jayden and said, “I heard you said I lost my ability to speak and that you wanted to take over my family’s business. When did I ever have that problem?”
“What happened to Nicole? What did you do to her?”
Jayden didn’t answer me. Instead, he shoved me aside and moved toward Nicole.
Following his movements, I turned and looked over.
Nicole curled up on the ground, drooling and crying, constantly clutching her throat.
When she saw Jayden coming, she grabbed his pants and tried to speak, but she could only make unclear noises.
Seeing the scene, Jayden slumped to the ground and shakily called for an
ambulance.
He stood up angrily after hearing it was on the way and tried to slap me.
But he ended up getting slapped instead.
He angrily pointed at me and shouted, “Wynter, you’re so heartless! Nicole is your daughter! How could you let this happen to her?”
His yelling didn’t make me angry. It just made me laugh.
“Is that so? I’m standing here with you. How can you be sure I’m the one who caused Nicole to end up like this?”

He was silent for a moment.
While he hesitated, I clapped my hands to signal the staff to play the video I had prepared earlier.
As soon as it started, Elisa burst in with a crowd of reporters.
“Ms. Schultz is seriously ill and is about to give up her position at the celebration. This is breaking news! Get it now!”
