Chapter 5
Aside from Blake and Lindsey, everyone else was taken into custody on the spot.
It was already late at night when Blake walked out of the pack house, needing some fresh air–only to see Lindsey waiting for him outside.
Tears welled in her eyes, and her pale face showed clear signs of exhaustion. She stepped forward and gently cupped Blake’s hand, sobbing softly.
“Blake, Jenna is already gone. Don’t let yourself fall apart. At least let someone treat your wounds…”
Before she could finish, Blake coldly shook her hand off.
Then, seeing Derek approaching, he gave him a quiet command.
“Release a public statement. The future Luna of the Bloodmoon Pack passed away today in a tragic accident. All pack activities are to be suspended for the funeral. Any pack member unwilling to comply will be expelled immediately.”
“As for the delayed partnerships–we’ll handle them strictly according to breach–of–contract terms.”
Lindsey froze. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing and quickly ran after Blake to block his path.
“Blake, what are you saying?”
“Wasn’t the whole point of bringing Jenna out today to sever the mate bond? Now you’re going to make an announcement that makes people think she was your Luna?”
“What if the other packs really believe that? You told me yourself we’d be holding our mating ceremony in a few days, didn’t you?”
Blake’s eyes were red.
“I never severed my mate bond with Jenna. If we had gone to that restaurant together today, I would have made her my Luna. I’m the Alpha–are you questioning my decision?”
Lindsey’s heart dropped.
She stepped back a few paces, then fell into her usual tactic.
“Blake, this joke has gone too far. I’m really shaken up… my heart hurts. Please take me to the pack doctor to check my heart, will you?”
This move had always worked for Lindsey. There was even a time when I was locked in a hanging basket outside a tall building, waiting for Blake to come and unlock it. But after one phone call from her, I was left to freeze and panic through the night.
But this time, it was as if Blake no longer felt anything for her.
His brow furrowed as he replied with indifference, “Lindsey, your legs and arms are fine. You can go see the doctor yourself.”
With that, he turned and walked away, paying no attention to her desperate criès echoing behind him.
Over the next few days, Blake remained immersed in grief. Everywhere he looked in the pack house, he saw traces of me, which only deepened his
regret.
While he had tried every way he could to torment me, I had only ever thought of how to help him live a better life.
The weight of those memories suffocated him.
That was when he finally understood–he had loved me all along.
He had been wrapped in my warmth for so long, he hadn’t realized how much his heart had already fallen.
On the day of the funeral, many Alphas and Lunas from other packs came to attend.
Blake had hidden it so well that this was the first time anyone had heard of me as the Bloodmoon Pack’s future Luna.
He stood at the front, both hands wrapped in gauze, looking haggard as he held my urn and delivered a solemn eulogy.
Just as he announced that the pack’s assets would be passed on to my surviving family members, Lindsey, who had been sitting quietly in a corner, suddenly snapped.
She rushed onto the stage and snatched the urn out of his hands.
“No! I won’t allow this!” she screamed. “You promised me I would be Luna! You said the pack’s wealth would be mine!”
“Take back what you just said!”

Blake looked at the crazed woman with bloodshot eyes, exhausted.
He clenched his jaw and forced his anger down as he warned coldly, “I’ve already made myself clear. Jenna is–and will always be–my only Luna. Put her ashes down right now, or don’t blame me for what happens next.”
Lindsey shook her head violently, her eyes wild with obsession.
“No! That’s not right! I spent years trying to destroy that bitch. I even ruined my own legs to frame her!”
“How could you be fooled by her? This life should’ve been mine! I’m the one you love most!”
Blake felt his mind go blank at her words.
Before he knew what he was doing, he was standing in front of her, his hands wrapped tightly around her throat.
Gasps rang out from the guests as Lindsey raised the urn and smashed it over his head.
Ash scattered through the air.
The funeral ended in utter chaos.
I saw the news while having lunch with my mother at a restaurant.
She looked at my gaunt face with eyes full of concern and tenderness.
“My sweet girl, you’ve suffered so much all these years. From now on, just stay with me and live a good life.”
I nodded.
Back then, after the kidnapping, my father had blamed everything on my mother.
He had forced her out so he could make the she–wolf he’d been cheating with his new wife.
For years, my mother had been trying to break through his barriers and get back in touch with me.
Now, she had finally succeeded.
From now on, I was no longer that helpless, fragile girl who needed a man to survive.
