Chapter 4
I walked toward David.]]
That face–familiar, heartbreakingly handsome–was the same one I’d loved for years.[]
His wet hair clung to his forehead.[]
His jaw, his eyes, his lips… nothing had changed.[]
Except now, for the first time, panic flashed across his features.]
“Claire, I…”
I cut him off, sneering at the girl in his arms:
“Lena, fucking around in someone else’s, home–pretty thrilling, right?“[]
She clutched her chest, face burning red as she shrank deeper into David’s embrace.[]
She
David’s expression darkened:[]
“This isn’t her fault.”
“This is on me.”
I glanced at him, unable to stop my cold laugh:
“Put some clothes on, David.“]
I ignored his livid expression, threw the student ID at Lena, and walked out.]

Maya drove me to a bar.
The moment I got in her car, David called.
I hung up.
He called again.
I switched to silent.
Maya watched me through the rearview mirror, asking carefully:
“David just let you walk away? Didn’t chase after you?”
I shrugged.
“He wasn’t dressed.”
Maya slammed the steering wheel.]
“Bastard.”
Then she frowned.
“Who was that woman? Have you seen her before?”
I thought of the name on the student ID.
“Her name’s Lena.“]
Chapter
“Wait… Lena. That name sounds familiar.“]
“Yeah, we’ve all met her.“[]
“We?”
1 nodded
“You, me, David.“]
She paused, then gasped.[]
“It’s HER?!”
Maya cursed.]
“God, if I’d known… we never should have helped her!”
“She must have been targeting David from the start!“]
Istayed quiet.
I could only remember how David looked at her–tender, loving.
I clenched my fists.
It wasn’t just her fault.[]
If David hadn’t responded, how could Lena have ended up in his bed?
Seeing my pained expression, Maya asked softly:
“Claire… what are you going to do?”
“Divorce.“]
Maya hesitated, lowering her voice:[]
“Claire, are you sure you want to move now?”
“David’s a law firm partner, still vying for that municipal court seat. Given his reputation, he probably won’t agree to divorce easily.“[]
She glanced at me and sighed
“Everyone thinks your marriage is perfect–media, friends, clients… you know?”
“If this goes legal, he might play the victim.“]]
Just as I was about to respond, my phone buzzed.[]
[Baby, give me some time. I’ll handle this.]
Nausea hit me.
“Baby“? Who was he calling that?
“Handle“? Was he going to deal with his mistress, or… silence me?]
My stomach churned.]
I stared at the message, remembering the campus card I’d found in his suit pocket once.[]
Lena had taken just three days to climb into David’s bed.
couldn’t help but sneer:
