Zoe clutched her face, letting out a piercing scream.
I watched her collapse on the floor, sobbing into her hands, and a surge of satisfaction washed over me.
But as the adrenaline faded, an overwhelming sense of exhaustion took its place.
“Madison, you freaking b***h! How dare you?!”
Zoe shrieked, her delicate facade shattered as she lunged at me like a madwoman.
What I didn’t expect was Nathan suddenly stepping between us, blocking her path.
“Haven’t we had enough chaos already?”
Zoe wiped her tears, trying to argue, but Nathan shot her a glare that shut her up instantly.
She sat down, silent for once.
His eyes were oddly red, and he sniffed–just for a second, he looked like the man I had once known, the man who had given up everything for me.
Gently, he pulled me into his arms, sensing how weak I was.
“Madison, let’s go home.”
“Let’s pretend none of this ever happened.”
“We can have another baby. I’ll love you just like before.”
I lifted my head, meeting his gaze with nothing but cold indifference.
“You really think there’s a future for us?”
“You actually believe I could ever share a bed with you again?”
“You make me sick, Nathan.”
“Even standing near you is revolting.”
I pushed him away with all the strength I had left, forcing myself to stand and walk toward the door without looking
back.
Nathan tried to pull me back, but his father’s thunderous voice cut through the air.
“If that woman stays, I leave.”
“If I stay, she leaves.”
