Chapter 22
Over the next few days, things only got worse for Byron. Sullivan Enterprises started a full–scale attack on his company, and as a newcomer in the industry. Byron was no match for the established families. The anger from being betrayed by Scarlett only fueled his rash decisions, which led to even more mistakes. pushing his struggling company closer to the edge.
Byron’s body couldn’t handle the stress anymore, before he knew it, he was back in the hospital, blood pouring from his mouth after a heated argument at the office.
By the time he was out of the hospital, his enterprise was broken up.
With nowhere else to turn, Byron thought of Adele. Fueled by rage and frustration, he went straight to her to confront Scarlett.]
“You’re the one to blame for this mess!” she spat. “I never asked you to follow me. You’re the one who made the choices!“]]
“It was because of you, I forgave Adele. I was with her because I loved her. But you… you kept pulling me back with your fucking games. shit!]
Byron listened to Scarlett’s accusations, how funny mistakes he had made![]
“Scarlett, don’t you feel even a little bit of guilt or regret for all of this?” The question felt absurd to him, but it was the only one he could muster.[]
“Regret? Guilt? Why?” Scarlett sneered. “We’ve known each other forever, Byron. You should know exactly who I am by now. You believe everything I say without question, don’t you? Do you really not realize how many lies I’ve told you? I’ve been saying what you wanted to hear. You’ve always been about yourself!”
Byron turned away, leaving without a word. []
Later, he wanted to apologize to Adele.
He tried to contact Adele, but every time was blocked by security.
But he kept trying. Finally, he found an opening when the guards were distracted and slipped into the parking. He waited until Adele appeared, then stepped in front of her.
Adele looked at him carefully, then her gaze sharpened. “Why are you here?“her voice flat, her posture closed off.
“Adele, I… I’m sorry. I hurt you.“He took a deep breath and continued.]
“Adele, please. If you’ll forgive me, I’ll make it right and love you
forever.”
