Chapter 9
The reporters immediately erupted in commotion, camera flashes frantically targeting the Hampton family.
George suddenly clutched his chest and collapsed into his chair, his face deathly pale.[]
He pointed at me with trembling fingers: “Joanna, do you know what this project means to Hampton Group?“]
Vanessa immediately rushed to support George, patting his back while cooing: “Dad, don’t get upset! I’m carrying a lucky star! The psychic said this child brings natural wealth–what project could be more precious than our golden grandson?”
She turned to look at me, her red lips curving into a mocking smile: “Joanna, this is all you’ve got? Flashing some numbers around like you’re some kind of business genius?”
The reporters‘ cameras immediately focused on this drama.]]
Seeing the attention, Vanessa became even more animated, pushing out her belly: “If you ask me, some people are just jealous. Can’t have children themselves, so they can’t stand seeing others succeed.“[]
She deliberately raised her voice: “Do you all know how much Hampton Group stock has risen since I got pregnant? 20%! That’s what I call bringing good fortune! Unlike some people who can only crunch numbers but can’t even have a baby!”
Nicholas immediately chimed in: “Exactly! The baby Vanessa’s carrying was blessed by a master psychic–born with golden destiny! What’s your little project compared to that, Joanna?“[]
Vanessa smugly flipped her hair: “Dad, don’t worry. When our baby is born, Hampton Group stock will definitely double. Then certain people will see what real business value looks like!”
I ignored her provocation and gracefully stepped down from the podium.]
as.”
As I passed by the Hampton family, I said quietly. “Lucky star? Soon you’ll discover who the real lucky star of the Hampton family was.”
A month later, I walked out of the civil hall holding my divorce decree.]
My phone buzzed–a call from my securities manager: “Ms. Collins, your 52% stake in Hampton Corporation has been completely sold off. Total cash out: 1.37 billion.”
“Excellent.” I hung up and opened my stock app.]
Hampton Group’s chart was in free fall–it had hit the daily limit down.
And this was just the beginning.
Three days later, Hampton Group headquarters was in chaos.
My inside source in the finance department sent word: Nicholas was throwing things in the conference room.
“That bitch Joanna!” He smashed his fifth cup. “When the hell did she buy so many shares?“]
The CFO tremblingly handed over a report: “Mr. Hampton, it’s not just the sell–off. Morgan Investment Bank just terminated follow–up funding for the renewable energy project, saying they only recognize Ms. Collins’s signature.”
George sat in his wheelchair, his speech slurred from stroke complications: “Fool… told you… shouldn’t have… crossed her.”
Vanessa, now visibly showing, shrieked: “So what! I’m carrying a lucky baby!“[]
A week later, disasters struck in succession:]
First the bank called in loans, demanding early repayment of 500 million dollars;
Then their biggest partner, Lee Corporation, announced termination of their contract, taking 40% of orders with them.]
I sat in my new office’s floor–to–ceiling windows, overlooking the city’s night skyline.[]
My assistant brought the latest report: “Hampton Group stock has fallen 90%. Nicholas’s mortgaged properties will be auctioned tomorrow.”
My Infertile Ex’s Secretary Claims She’s Pregnant with His Colden Child.

“Got it. Have legal prepare the debt transfer agreements.”
The money the Hampton family had lent to the Collins family years ago–I’d already paid back every penny with interest.]
Now it was time for Nicholas to experience what it truly meant to leave with nothing.
Late that night, my phone lit up
It was Nicholas calling–the 37 missed call.]
I pressed the power button and tossed the phone in the trash.]
Tomorrow, someone would deliver the court’s seizure notice to him.]
And my new company, “Anson Capital,” would officially open tomorrow in the building directly across from Hampton Group.
I’d deliberately chosen the highest floor, so Nicholas would see it every time he looked up
The woman he’d called a “barren bitch” now stood at heights he could never reach.]
