Chapter 2
Ethan Carter loved sweet wine.
When we first met, he’d finish every bottle I made, over and over again.
Moon, your wine is so sweet, like a perfect peach!”
“I just love it!”
I’d blush, leaning into his embrace, teasing him.
“If I ever stopped loving you, you’d only get to drink bitter wine.”
He’d proudly tilt his head back and swear.
“I’ll make sure Moon loves me forever! I’ll always drink the sweetest wine!”
But in this very moment, an intense bitterness exploded in his mouth.
Memories rushed back to him instantly.
He stood frozen, letting Chloe urge him to toast.
“Ethan, everyone’s waiting! Let’s go toast!”
“Ethan, hurry up, everyone’s waiting!”
A groomsman nearby, seeing his daze, gave him a nudge.
“Dude, are you high from getting married? Go on!”
Ethan stumbled, and the wine in his hand shattered on the floor.
He snapped back to reality, ripped off his boutonniere, and made to leave.
Chloe, seeing this, quickly grabbed him.
“Ethan, it’s our wedding day! Where are you going?”
Ethan shook off her hand, explaining frantically.
“Chloe, can we have the wedding another time? Everyone here is a friend, they’ll understand.”
With that, he walked out without a backward glance, ending the lively celebration.
Because it was so rushed.
Because Ethan Carter had wanted so desperately to keep Chloe.
Their wedding wasn’t grand; they only invited close friends.
That’s why Ethan could leave without a second thought.
He was always like that – once he made a decision, no one could change it.
Ethan Carter’s life had always been too smooth. He felt like everything in life should revolve around him.
