I woke up the next day, and Liam was already dressed.
The white dress shirt strained against his
chest muscles.
Black slacks hugged his tight ass.
Memories from the night before rushed back.
I felt my ears burn.
Last time, besides the contract signing, Liam

and I barely touched each other.
Liam knew I hated how “rough” he was.
And he never came on too strong.
The one time we did get intimate was terrible because I was tense and resistant.
If Liam hadn’t sacrificed himself for me after my death.
I probably would have gone to my grave not knowing he had any feelings for me.
Lost in thought, Liam turned and saw me standing there.

His face darkened.
“What, regretting things already?”
I used to be scared of Liam.
Whenever he frowned, I’d shrink back.
But now I saw he was just using that as a front.
To hide his insecurity.
No one would believe that the leader of the werewolves.
Felt insecure around me, the Hawthorne
screw–up.
I walked over to him.
A smile tugged at my lips, my voice honeyed.
“Hell no, I was just thinking about how
awesome you were last night.”
Liam’s ears turned a shade of red I’d never seen before.
He started to say something, but his phone
rang.
I glanced at the caller ID.
It was Jasper.
Liam must have guessed who it was because
the warmth on his face vanished, replaced by an icy stare.
“Werewolves hate betrayal more than anything. I gave you a chance to say no last night.”
“I don’t give a damn what was between you two before, you better cut it off now.”
Liam had known about me and Jasper all along.
Last time.

He’d said almost the exact same thing.
And how had I reacted?
I’d screamed at him.
“You’re holding my whole family hostage, how could I say no?”
“You werewolves hate betrayal, then don’t go around breaking up relationships!”
That last line was like a knife to the heart for Liam.
Werewolves might be savage, but they were loyal as hell.

The least honorable thing Liam had ever
done.
Was ask my dad for me, knowing I had
someone else I wanted.
When I’d said that, I’d seen a flash of pain in
Liam’s eyes.
Finally, he’d said, “Foxes are cunning,
masters of deceit. Jasper only has a pretty
face. He is not for you.”
At the time, I’d brushed it off.
Thinking he was just jealous.

But now I knew he’d seen Jasper for what he
was.
The phone kept ringing.
I frowned, annoyed.
What was Jasper calling about at this hour?
Oh.
To say he was in the hospital.
Last time, I’d gotten a call from him saying he’d OD’d on sleeping pills because of me.
I’d rushed to the hospital, ignoring Liam’s
