Ashley added fuel to the fire, “I remember Chloe said when we were divorcing, ‘There are plenty of fish in the sea, why obsess over one flower! Did she really go abroad to find-”
Jackson’s face darkened, his aura instantly chilling. He gritted his teeth. “Chloe, you’re something else!”
His eyes looked somewhat lost. Then, remembering something, he suddenly linked arms with Ashley. “Sarah Thompson, tell Chloe that in three days, Ashley and I will be having our wedding. Tell her to come or not, I don’t care!”
He was certain I loved him dearly and that hearing about his marriage to someone else would make me furious, causing me to rush back and disrupt everything.
A flicker of wild joy passed through Ashley’s eyes.
Sarah, hearing this, merely gave a sarcastic smile. “Jackson Hayes, you won’t be waiting for her.”
During those three days, I watched him meticulously prepare for the wedding, choosing outfits and rings.
The level of detailed preparation was vastly different from his perfunctory attitude when we first got married.
I poked the System impatiently. “It’s been almost two weeks already, and you still haven’t fixed it. Your System’s efficiency is too slow.”
The System slowly replied, “It’s your own fault. You couldn’t conquer Jackson Hayes in seven years, failing at the last minute.”
Perhaps after becoming colleagues, the System felt more ‘human! I laughed despite myself.
The night before the wedding, Jackson sat in his room, staring blankly at his phone, as if waiting for something.
He finally couldn’t help but message me: “Chloe, I’m getting married. Don’t you have anything to say?”
The message remained unanswered.
The next second, he called his assistant, Mark. “Check Chloe’s recent flight records. See if she has any plans to return to the country!”
Time ticked by, and Mark quickly replied, sounding confused. “Mr. Hayes, Miss Davis has no outbound travel records. She should still be in the
country.”
Jackson’s grip on his phone tightened, knuckles white. He answered gravely, “I understand. The wedding is postponed.”
He didn’t hesitate. He put on his coat, tidied his hair, and left the house, getting into his car.
The surroundings outside the car became increasingly familiar.
It was… my house?!
Did he really want his ex–wife to attend his wedding so badly?
It was the middle of the night. My family was long asleep, but they were woken by loud banging on the door.
My dad impatiently opened the door, found it was Jackson Hayes, and his impatience instantly turned to deeper disgust. “What are you doing
here?”
Jackson’s eyes were like pinpricks of light. “Where’s Chloe? Tell her to come out.”
My dad gave a sarcastic laugh. “I disowned that traitor Chloe ages ago, didn’t you know?!”
Jackson froze.
Before, he had only focused on managing his company, accumulating power to get revenge on me.
In his memory, I was supposed to be a pampered heiress.
<
He had no idea I’d actually been disowned by my family.
Thinking this, he voiced the question.
My dad’s old face twisted for a moment. “Jackson Hayes, what’s the point of playing dumb? Back then, the billionaire’s son was interested in Chloe, but she insisted on marrying you and made me invest to save your family’s bankruptcy. Later, she even worked against us, helping you fight the Davis family. Such an unfilial daughter, good riddance!”
Jackson’s face went blank. “But, wasn’t it her who forced me to marry her using her family, and even drove Ashley away-”
*Slap!*
Jackson backhanded Ashley, his palm stinging from the impact.
The slap echoed crisply in the rain.
Ashley covered her swollen face, looking confused, still wanting to argue.
Jackson said coldly, “Ashley Miller, you better have only lied to me about *this*”
Jackson stepped past Ashley, got into his car, and told
Mark
to drive away without minding Ashley.
The atmosphere in the car was terrifyingly low.
“To the Thompson residence.”
asked, “Mr. Hayes, home or…?”
At the Thompson residence. SUGAR
Sarah, my best friend, was fast asleep when she was suddenly jolted
She opened the door to find Jackson Hayes soaking wet and was startled.
But to her surprise, Jackson pushed past her, barging into her house, looking around, shouting loudly, “Chloe, stop hiding! Sarah is your only friend, where else could you go?!”
“If you don’t come out, I’ll make Thompson Industries go bankrupt!”
Sarah, half–asleep, instantly roared, “She’s already dead! What
do
you want?!”
