James stayed for dinner, constantly flattering my mom during the meal.
But he also proved it with actions, emptying all the plates.
As it was getting late, my mom threw me a jacket and told me to walk James out of the community: “Take a walk after dinner, talk more.”
“Thank you, Mom!”
James excitedly gave my mom a military salute!
I couldn’t help but laugh.
We walked in the community, the streetlights casting light on his handsome profile, unable to hide the elegance and nobility in his bones.
When I first laid eyes on him, of course, it was because he was handsome.
Simply put, it was love at first sight.
The more we interacted, the more we found that we had common interests and compatible values.

We even felt at one point that we were each other’s soulmates.
After dating for over two years, we decided to get married.
James asked me to meet his parents first, and it was on that day that his father had a car accident. I didn’t even get to meet his father.
But Mrs. Sullivan blamed the fault on me, perhaps because she knew about my father’s incident.
“By the way, how is your father doing now?”
“Actually, my dad is fine, not as bad as my mom said. Now he enjoys his days, playing chess in the park when he’s free, occasionally going fishing.” James said.
Hearing this, I felt relieved.
As we were about to reach the entrance of the community, James suddenly clutched his right side: “Oh no, it hurts a bit, I need to sit down and rest for a while.”
I hurriedly helped him sit down: “How is it? Does it hurt a lot?”
James took the opportunity to pull me into his arms, burying his head in the crook of my neck as if after a long absence.
“In this year, three months, and fifteen days since we broke up, I haven’t been doing well at all. I’ve been thinking about you almost every day, wondering why you broke up with me.”
His tone was full of grievance, even carrying a hint of tears.
It made my heart ache.
I hugged him, my eyes reddening: “I’m sorry…”
James hugged me tighter: “Silly girl, this can’t be entirely blamed on you. If we really have to blame you, it’s for… not trusting me.”
“Mom just now was right, it’s already the 21st century, we can’t be so superstitious anymore. Accidents are something no one wants.”
I nestled in James’s arms, biting my lip in silence.
“Clang!”
Suddenly, a glass bottle fell from upstairs, nearly hitting James. We were both startled, staring at the glass shards on the ground.
The security guard rushed out, cursing at the upper floors and calling the police.
“Sir, are you alright?”
“I’m fine.”
James was more concerned about my condition: “Lily, I’m really okay, look at me, I’m fine. Don’t think about unnecessary things, okay?”
I pushed James away a bit, averting my gaze: “It’s getting late, you should go back.”
After saying this, I turned and ran away quickly, trying to take the disaster away from James.
