When I got back, my mom noticed I was distracted and quickly asked what happened.
I hid in my mom’s arms, telling her what had just happened, feeling very confused: “Mom, do you think I should stay away from James?”
“Silly girl, how can you think like that? It was just a coincidence.”
“Was it really just a coincidence?”

“Was it really just a coincidence?”
“Would mom lie to you?”
Although my mom kept comforting me, I still couldn’t get over this hurdle in my heart. How could there be such a coincidental thing?
Unless I find out which household threw that glass bottle.
Anyway, I’ve resigned now, I have plenty of time!
The next day.
James came over very early to mooch off my mom’s breakfast.
Emily noticed that James brought a big bag, bulging with stuff: “Dr. Sullivan, what’s in the bag?”
“It’s for Lily.”
I curiously unzipped it.
Inside were all snacks, especially a lot of preserved plums.
“Thank you.”
“When I’m off work this afternoon, let’s go get our

marriage certificate.” James said as he sat down next to me.
I moved to the side, and he followed, sticking close.
He kept pushing until I had nowhere to retreat: “What are you doing?”
“I want to be close to you.”
Sitting across from us, Emily quickly exclaimed that she didn’t want to see this public display of affection and hurried into the kitchen to help
my mom.
I had no choice but to let James have his way.
“Did you tell your mother about getting the marriage certificate with me?”
“I did, but she doesn’t allow it. She’s threatening to kill herself. James answered very honestly.
I gave him an exasperated look: “Then why are you still talking about getting the certificate this afternoon?”
James raised his hand, ruffling my hair, comforting me: “Don’t worry, my dad is at home persuading her. I believe she’ll accept it sooner or later”
“Moreover, I’m the one marrying you, I’m the one who will live with you in the future.”
“We won’t live together after marriage.”
But I still shook my head: “Let’s wait a bit, there’s no rush.”

James didn’t understand. He held my hand: “Lily, we’ve already wasted a year. If it weren’t for some misunderstandings, I believe we would already be married, and our child might even be over a year old.”
“I don’t want to waste any more time. I want to see you every morning when I wake up and every night before I sleep.”
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t moved by his words.
I pulled my hand away: “James, can you give me some time?”
Just then, the hospital called, and James had to leave.
But as he reached the door, he turned back: “Alright, I’ll give you time. I’ve waited for a year, three months, and fifteen days, so I can wait a bit
longer.”
“But I hope you won’t disappoint me.”
