Chapter 1
Antonio Kaufman, my husband, fell for Natalie Lawson, his best friend’s
sister.
Natalie took Antonio from me at every important moment of my life.
On my birthday, Antonio left because she had a stomachache.
bn our marriage anniversary, Antonio stayed with her all day.
When my daughter was in surgery, he was having dinner with Natalie.
I was so disappointed that I couldn’t stand them anymore.
Thus, I sold our house and took my daughter abroad.
Antonio didn’t know yet that he would be homeless.
“Isabella Kaufman, age 5, got multiple cuts in a car crash and needs Type AB blood! Go get it in the blood bank!” a nurse said while wheeling the gurney fast toward the operating room.
I followed along with fear. Several times, I almost fell because of my weak knees.
I begged, “Doctor, I’m her mom, Grace Parrish. Please save my daughter!”
The doctor was too busy to answer me, while the nurse stopped me. “You can’t get in. Wait here.”
The door closed.
I was shut out. Seeing the operating room’s red light, I leaned against the wall and slid down with tears.
Antonio and I would take Isabella to an amusement park today.
We were all set to go, but Antonio got an urgent call from work. He told. us to head out first.
On the way there, we encountered a pileup, so I slammed on the brakes. But a car rear–ended my car and caused it to overturn.
I passed out right away. Then, Isabella’s crying woke me up.
I climbed out of the car, but Isabella’s legs were stuck.
Just when I had lost all hope, the firefighters and the ambulance arrived and pulled Isabella out.
Time passed by. I stared at the operating room’s door and clenched my shaking hands.
All of a sudden, a nurse rushed out. “We don’t have enough blood! Your daughter is in urgent need of it. Is there anyone in your family who’s Type AB?”
My mind went blank for a split second. Then, I thought of Antonio.
“Her dad! I’ll call him now!” I said anxiously and quickly called Antonio, hoping he’d pick up right away.
But after some beeps, I was hung up.
I called again, and it was still the same.
Being hung up 5 times, I broke down. “Answer my phone, Antonio. Please!”

However, my phone died this time.
I fell into despair, tears pouring down my cheeks.
I thought, “What am I supposed to do now? Who can save Isabella?”
I turned to those at the other end of the hallway and ran to a random person, asking, “Are you Type AB? Could you save my daughter?”
That person shook his head, and I rushed to another one.
Everyone was looking at me with a weird look. But I didn’t care.
I’d do anything if someone could save Isabella!
Right then, a person said, “I’m Type AB. I’ll give blood.”
Hearing that, the nurse pulled him away for blood donation before I could say thank you.
The operating room’s door was closed again.
I sat on the bench, hoping my daughter would make it through.

Two hours later, Isabella got out of the woods and wheeled out.
Seeing her pale face, I felt lucky and sad, tears stinging my eyes.
I thanked the doctor. Then, I wanted to see the volunteer, but the nurse said that he’d already left.
I didn’t give it much thinking, and I went to Isabella’s ward with her.
The doctor listed some do’s and don’ts and told me not to forget to pay the bills.

I nodded, borrowed a charger for my phone, and asked the nurse to keep
an eye on Isabella. Then I headed to the first floor with the bills.
But when I passed by a ward, I heard Antonio’s voice.
