**Chapter 21**
Riley was admitted to the highest–end hospital in the area.
Caleb even hired several private nurses for her, ensuring her care was meticulously thorough.
With modern medicine, the healing process was naturally far more efficient than Amanda’s mother’s slow herbal remedies.
Her injuries healed at a visibly rapid pace.
However, her palms, having been pierced, seemed to have suffered nerve damage, and her hands never regained their previous dexterity.
Later, Leo came to visit her in the hospital a few times.
He said, “My brother has businesses here. The largest hotel and resort are under his name. He’s incredibly capable. Whatever you need, you can tell him. There’s nothing he can’t do.”
Riley still felt a little guilty. “My treatment costs… when I’m better, I’ll find a job and slowly pay you back.”
Leo, however, said mysteriously, “Haha, maybe you won’t even have to pay it back then.”
“What do you mean? I don’t quite understand.”
Leo deliberately played coy. “You’ll understand when the time comes”
Leo was busy with post–disaster reconstruction work recently, so he left after sitting for a while.
Caleb, on the other hand, came every evening.
He seemed somewhat taciturn, exuding an aura that kept people at a distance, but for some reason, Riley wasn’t afraid of him.
For an entire week, he would come to her hospital room every night and sit there.
Perhaps he would work, or read a newspaper, and only leave after she had fallen asleep.
Riley was a little confused. Caleb had such a large enterprise; he should be very busy with work. Why did he come to her room every night?
One night, she deliberately pretended to be asleep, paying close attention to Caleb’s movements.
She saw him put down his newspaper, slowly walk over, sit by her bed, and let out a heavy sigh.
How did you get so injured after I only left for half a year?”
His voice was low and magnetic.
Especially in the dark night, it sounded a little desolate.
“I heard you got married, and then I regretted not having found you sooner, not having expressed my feelings. If I had been braver bac would we not be separated like this, and you wouldn’t be standing before me covered in injuries?”
“I thought you married Julian, that at least you’d live a life free of worries. You loved him so much, so I gave up, burying my feelings. Bu why did you get so severely hurt?”
“Was it your sister bullying you again? Or your parents?”
“Never mind. Now that you’re here, forget all the past. From now on, you are not Riley, you are Reborn. This time, I won’t let go again. I’ll good care of you, stay with you, and protect you forever.”
Before leaving, he gently kissed her forehead.
With immense tenderness and affection.
Caleb…
This name, she had felt it seemed familiar from the very beginning, yet no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t remember what connec she had with him.
On the weekend, Leo came.
He brought Riley a bouquet of fresh flowers and smiled as he asked how she was feeling.
Riley voiced the question weighing on her mind. “Mr. Gu, have we met before, back in our country?”
Leo was slightly stunned, but then he looked happy. “You finally remembered?”
Riley still looked bewildered.
“Remember what?”
29
Leo was anxious. “You really don’t remember?”
Riley still shook her head,
The names Caleb and Leo felt both familiar and strangely distant to her.
Leo was in a hurry. “Eight years ago, you saved a pair of brothers. You don’t remember anything at all?”
Eight years ago, brothers…
Riley suddenly looked up. Were they…?
