Chapter 4
Gabriel snatched the cremation declaration from Clarissa’s hand.
His face twisted with fury after just one glance. “Stephanie, you really forged something like this just to trick me?”
He threw the paper right at my face, shouting through clenched teeth, “I’m warning you–my patience has limits! Keep this up, and Clarissa’s taking your place as Mrs. Marcy. Her son will be the next heir!”
The paper’s edge sliced my cheek, leaving a thin line of blood.
I wiped it away and said flatly, “Go ahead. I don’t want any of it.”
“Stephanie, how long are you gonna keep this up?”
Compared to his rage, I was oddly calm. “I’m done. I just want out.”
His eyes narrowed, jaw tight. “You’re my wife. You don’t leave unless I say so.”
I stepped forward. Determined.
Then, his hand came down hard on the back of my neck.
Darkness swallowed me.

A splash of ice-cold water woke me 20 minutes later.
I blinked awake, slumped on a lounge chair. My wrists and ankles were tied tightly.
“You’re up?”

Clarissa stood in front of me, smirking like she’d won the world. “Look at you. Blank face. Dead eyes. You appear as if you’ve been left out for days. No wonder Gabriel got bored with you and fell for me.”
She leaned in, voice mocking. “Wanna know a secret? We were already together before you two ever got married. He always said you were stiff, no fun, a total corpse in bed. He said I was better–more exciting, more satisfying.”
None of it got to me.
I didn’t care who Gabriel loved anymore.
But she wasn’t done. She folded her arms, grinning widely. “Oh, and your son? He’s dead, right? Truth is–I was the one who told Gabriel to hang him up in the sun. I didn’t think it’d actually kill that brat, but hey, guess useless runs in your blood.”
She laughed. “Stephanie, I’m gonna be Mrs. Marcy soon. The whole Marcy Group will belong to my kids. And you? You’ll have nothing. Nothing! Hahaha…”
That did it. I couldn’t stay silent anymore.
I glared at her, fire burning through my chest. “Clarissa, you’ll pay for this!”
“Pay?” She scoffed, lips curling. “Let’s see who karma hits first, shall we?”
Right after saying that, she suddenly bit down hard on her palm. Blood. spilled instantly. Then she grabbed a teacup off the table and smashed it
on the floor.
“Ahhh!” she screamed.
The door flew open.
Chapter 4
Gabriel rushed in, panicked. “Clarissa! What happened?”
Clarissa threw herself into his arms, sobbing pitifully. “I just came in to give Stephanie some water, but she knocked it over and bit me. Look–so much blood. It hurts, Gabriel…”
“Stephanie!” Gabriel’s face darkened. His eyes burned with cold fury.
“I’ve been too damn soft on you. That’s why you keep pushing Clarissa around. Keep it up, and you’ll learn the hard way!”
He raised his hand to strike–but before he could swing, a loud crash came from the doorway.
A team of police officers burst into the room.
“Mr. Marcy, you’ve been reported for causing the death of your own son. You’ll need to come with us for questioning.
