Chapter 5
Jeff calmly straightened the wrinkle on his collar, then looked at me with unwavering resolve. “Tahlia is my fiancée.”
Philip froze, his eyes flicking between us, his face turning dark.
“Tahlia, seriously? You roped in my best friend just to get my attention?
‘You really had to go that far, huh?”
He pulled Kate into his arms, like he was trying to prove a point.
“I’ve told you–Kate is the only one I love. No matter what tricks you pull, I’ll never let a woman like you into this family.”
Then he turned to Andrew.

“Grandpa, I’ve said it before–stop bringing in these random people.
“The Gorman Group is thriving because of my management skills, not some so–called curse. Even without marrying her, I can double our profits.”
I’d done what I came to do. I stood quietly behind Jeff, ready to leave the Gorman’s residence for good.
But Philip stormed up to me, face full of irritation. “I already agreed to let you stay here as a maid.
“You’re still throwing a tantrum? What’s your problem?”
Then he turned to Jeff. “Jeff, sorry for dragging you out here in the middle of the night to play along.

“This is a family matter. You can head back now.”
Even now, he still thought all of this was just some act to get his
attention.
But Jeff didn’t budge. Not an inch.
“Whatever drama or family matter you’ve got going on, it’s not my
business. But tonight, Tahlia is leaving with me.”
Seeing that I was actually walking away, Philip suddenly looked irritated.
“Tahlia, don’t you dare.
“If you walk out with him now, even if you come back begging, don’t expect me to look at you again.”
I couldn’t help but laugh.
I turned to Philip.

“Didn’t you just say no matter what happens, you’d never love me, never marry me?
“Well, I’m leaving now. So why are you trying to stop me?”
He froze, mouth half open, clearly wanting to say something, but nothing
came out.
When he stayed silent, I turned and walked out. Only to be stopped by a sharp bark from Andrew.
“Stop right there!
“Tahlia, you’re a guest of the Gorman family. You don’t leave without my permission,”
I turned back slowly. “Sir Gorman, I’ve already broken the curse on your
family.
“So why can’t I leave?”
His face darkened. A few servants started closing in on us.
“I said you can’t leave. That’s final.”
In my past life, when Philip had pushed me to a breakdown and I begged. for a divorce, he’d used the same domineering tone.
He wouldn’t let me go.
And it got me–and our unborn child–killed!
Just as rage welled up inside me, Jeff let out a cold laugh. “Tahlia is my fiancée. I’m taking her. What are you gonna do about it?”
Andrew was stunned and silent..
Then Jeff reached into his pocket and pulled out a flash drive.
“This contains proof that Philip paid thugs to assault Tahlia.
“If I don’t walk out of here with her today, I’ll have no choice but to
release it.
“I’m curious–how do you think your precious Gorman Group stock will hold up with a scandal like that?”
