Chapter 9
With the company teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, Philip had no other option but to use some of the property deeds Andrew had kept as collateral.
He just wanted to give the company a little more time to survive.
But as soon as he opened the door, he caught Kate trying to take things from the safe and sneak out.
“What are you doing?” he asked.
Kate jumped in shock, dropping everything he was holding.
“Philip, L…”
Right then, Philip realized what was going on.
“You knew the company was in danger, and you still tried to escape with the money?!”
His voice was icy, and he looked furious.
Suddenly, a memory from his past life surfaced. He had said something similar to Tahlia back then.
But instead of turning away, she had handed over all her savings to him without hesitation.
“Philip, we’re husband and wife. If something happens to your family, I’ll stand by your side.”
Right after, a memory of Tahlia being pushed into the grave while begging for her life flashed in his mind.
“Philip. for our child’s sake, please don’t kill me…
“That is your own child!”
Philip forced himself to stay steady. grabbed Kate’s hair, and threw her against the wall.
“If you hadn’t claimed that Tahlia brought you bad luck and caused your miscarriage, I never would have taken her life!”
Her body hit the wall hard, and blood poured out right away.
As Philip’s eyes burned with rage, Kate held her stomach and let out a
scream.
“I’m pregnant!”
Philip froze in place, his hands still in the air and his expression rigid.
Kate dropped to her knees, clinging to the bottom of Philip’s pants. “Philip, I’m carrying your child.
“You don’t want both me and your child to suffer, do you? I’m doing this for the future of our child!”
She watched his face nervously, then slowly moved her hand toward the blue diamond necklace on the floor.
“Philip, the company is beyond saving anyway. Why not save what we can… for our child instead?”
A look of pain appeared in Philip’s eyes.
“Kate, I never thought you’d let me down like this.”
The car drove up the hill until it stopped at the Gorman family’s ancestral
grave.
There, one of the graves was empty.
Kate looked like she realized what was coming. Her face went pale, and she started to plead in panic.
“Philip, please forgive me. I truly know I was wrong.
“I shouldn’t have accused Tahlia of targeting and bullying me, and I definitely shouldn’t have spoken ill of her in front of you. I should never have convinced you to bury her alive…
“But I only did it because I loved you so much!”
Philip remained expressionless and gave her a cold shove into the lightless, suffocating grave,
Kate broke down, screaming in horror.
“No, please!
“Philip… don’t do this to me…
