Chapter 11%
“You should live for yourself, not sacrifice your happiness for others,” Sebastian continued. “You have the right to pursue the life you want, not live in someone else’s shadow.”
His words were like a long–awaited breeze, clearing away some of the confusion and doubt in my heart.”
The night air was a bit chilly. Even though Scott was still sleeping soundly in the hospital room, I could feel he was slowly getting better. And maybe it was time for me to start living for myself too, to find the version of me I used to be.”
“Are you running this hospital now?” I couldn’t help but ask, my eyes wide with surprise.}]
Sebastian smiled. “Yeah. I invested in and founded it. It’s part of a chain, but we’ve always stayed true to one goal, giving patients the most professional, heartfelt care we can.“}
“You’re very successful,” I said, genuinely admiring him.
He looked at me. “If you could be a little easier on yourself, perhaps you’d realize you’re much stronger than you think.”
Sebastian always seemed to see through my anxieties and struggles with ease. His words were like a balm, soothing some of the wounds in my heart.”
“How are you doing now? Do you have a family?” I asked suddenly. Although I knew he was a successful doctor, I knew very little about his personal life.
He gave a faint smile, his eyes gentle and kind. “I haven’t married yet. Work keeps me swamped and my life mostly revolves around it. But honestly, being thirty, it’s the perfect age for a lot of things.“>
As I left the hospital room, his words echoed in my mind: Thirty was the perfect age.}
A strange feeling stirred within me, as if something had suddenly lit up inside.}
I stood in the hospital corridor, looking out through the glass window at the gradually dimming sky, Sebastian’s words echoing in my head.
1 had always lived through the eyes of others, especially in Kai’s world. I’d almost forgotten who I truly was. My worth wasn’t just an image in his eyes or his emotional attachment to the past.
But what about me? I had sacrificed so much for him and, in doing so, lost myself.
Now, I felt like I should have my own path.
Still reflecting on these thoughts, I returned to Scott’s room. Looking at my sleeping child, I felt a sense of determination I’d never experienced before.
I would no longer rely solely on Kai’s support. I knew I could entirely depend on my own abilities to create a better life for myself and Scott.
I sat by the bedside and started organizing my thoughts, starting to draft my resume.}
My resume listed my experience working at the Lockwood Corp, as well as my academic background, having been accepted into a 985 university.
Even though these past years I’d been constrained by marriage and grown increasingly dependent on Kai, that didn’t mean I’d lost my capabilities.
Kai had given me a hundred million dollars. This money might be compensation for me and our child, but it couldn’t be the entirety of my future life.
I filled out each section of my resume, then started searching for suitable jobs. Everything with the lawyer was in progress and the divorce was no longer something I needed to worry about; all legal procedures were proceeding smoothly.”
Meanwhile, Kai’s life was anything but peaceful.”
Florence’s face had healed and she lay in her hospital bed, complicated feelings swirling inside her. She’d been waiting for Kai to visit, but he hadn’t come to see her even once.”
