Chapter 10
An hour’s drive in the past, Darren was back home
e in just over
The sky suddenly became overcast with layers of clouds covering the last bit of moonlight.
Abright light suddenly flashed across the dark sky, and thunder roared in my ears.
Darren telt his heart beating faster and faster, that imeasy feeling was Ile a tidal ware, almost about to drown him.
When I pushed open the villa gate, I vaguely sensed something unusual.
The servants were still tidying up quietly, and every corner of the house was cleaned and newt.
The smell of com rib soup was watting in the kitchen, bubbling way.
The butler quickly took his coat respectfully when he heard the noise.
Everything was as usual.
There’s just something off about it.
He stood at the entrance frowning, his gate sweeping over the clean marble floor, finally landing on that plain white vase
There were no flowers inside.
Isabela used to change fresh flowers every day.
Sometimes it’s a rose with morning dew, sometimes it’s wild daisies picked by the roadside.
She always said, “There’s life in the house only
by when there are flowers.”
Now, the vase is empty, like its soul has been sucked out
Darren felt a sudden tightness in his chest and walked quickly towards the restaurant
The dining table was covered with cold black marble, and those colorful table mats carefully chosen by Isabela were nowhere to be seen.
Her poorly painted oil painting of the alley where they first met used to hang on the wall, now there’s just a lone awkward hook
“Where’s Isabela’s stuff?” he asked in a low voice.
The butler was taken aback and replied hesitantly, “Ms. Payne suddenly came back crying one day not long ago, with a pale face. She silently packed up all her things and burned them in the yard.”
“I felt something was wrong at that time, so I quickly went up and asked about the situation, but Ms. Payne didn’t answer anything from start to finish, just leaving behind one sentence.
The butler suddenly hesitated, cold sweat breaking out on his forehead.
“What did you say!” Darren shouted angrily.
He seemed calm on the surface, but his clenched fist gave away his true feelings.
He vaguely know what Isabela had said, but when it really came time to face it, he got a little nervous.
The butler swallowed and sighed, lowering his head as he replied, “He said he wouldn’t come back.”
Darren suddenly clenched his fist, nails digging deep into his palm.
He rushed up to the second floor, and the master bedroom door was rudely pushed open.
In the wardrobe, his suits and shirts were neatly hung, whille Isabela’s half was empty.
On
the dressing table, all her bottles and jars of skincare products disappeared completely, not even a single hair left behind.
The drawer of the bedside table was half open.
Damen tremblingly opened the “diary” that should have contained Isabela’s,
The thick diary filled with the three words “Darren“.
There is only one note left now: “Key has been returned to the property. Take care.”
The handwriting was neve, with no signature.

Darren sat on the edge of the bed, his temples pounding
He suddenly remembered that last week when Isabela came to pick up something, he was video calling Elaine and didn’t even give her a glance
She stood at the door and said softly, “Mr. Cressey, I’m leaving”
And what did he reply?
“Remember to close the door.”
The overwhelming pain in his heart made him almost smable to stand steady, he could only struggle to support himself against the wall and walk to the
sink.
In the bathroom, Isabela’s toothbrush cup was missing
Darren stared at the lonely electric toothbrush holder, remembering how she used to complain about him leaving his toothbrush everywhere, yet she still quietly charged it for him every day.
In the mirror cabinet, her cotton swabs and hair ties were all gone,
the storage room, all the things she bought, le scented candles, plush slippers, and even the box of “honey pomelo tea for Mr. Cressey to sober up,”
were nowhere to be found.
The whole villa was like a formatted hard drive, all data about Isabela was completely deleted
Darren felt like he had been drained of all his strength, and could only lie weakly on the ground, gasping for air.
A feeling of regret like never before washed over him, pin numbing his whole body, as if he could hear the faint sound of his heart breaking.
It wasn’t until then that Darren truly saw his own heart
He had already fallen for Isabela without even realizing
Rubbing the yellowed photos in his hand repeatedly, he couldn’t help but burst into tears.
