Chapter 15
Isabela stood in front of the fresh food section in the supermarket, Lightly playing with the noodles on the shell.
Today was her 28th birthday.
( anyone, not even when her mother called, she just smiled and said “I’m busy with work today, we’ll celebrate on the weekend.”
She didn’t tell any
She just didn’t want her family to worry.
In those past years… her birthday was always associated with heavy rain, mess, and heartbreak.
Especially last year
Memories keep popping up uncontrollably…
That day she worked late into the night, but got a call from the drunk Darren: “Come pick me up.”
When she arrived in the pouring rain, she saw Flaine tiptoeing to kiss his lips.
And he clearly saw her, but just coldly looked away, letting Elaine pour red wine on her….
“Miss, here is your shopping bag,” the cashier’s voice brought her back to reality.
Isabela thanked and took the simple ingredients, heading towards the apartment.
The sunset made harshadow very long. When she passed by the flower shop, she hesitated for a moment, but still bought a small bunch of sunflowers.
“It’s like a gift to myself,” she whispered to the flowers.
The elevator mirror reflected her look today: brige knitted skirt, slightly curled hair ends,
and a light coral lip gloss on her lips.
When the key was inserted into the lock, Isabela caught a hint of sweemess. She pushed open the door in confusion
“Bang!”
Colorful fireworks suddenly exploded in the sky, and ribbons fluttered down.
The lights were bright, the living room was filled with balloons, and a hand–painted “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” banner was hanging on the wall, the ink not yet dry.
The rushed out of the kitchen with a cake, his white shirt covered in flour and a suspicious chocolate stain on his forehead.
“Leaving work early is against the rules!” he pretended to be angry, but couldn’t hide the smile in his eyes, “Talmost didn’t make it…”.
Isabela stood at the door, with the sunflowers and shopping bag falling to the ground.
The cake was a bit weirdly shaped, the cream was unevenly spread, the strawberry slices were different sizes, and “Bella 28 Years Old” was written crookedly with blueberry sauce.
*I tried three times before succeeded,” Rhett’s ears turned red, “the first time it burned, the second time it collapsed…
Before he could finish his sentence, Isabela suddenly threw herself into his arms. The cake dangerously wobbled, but she managed to catch it just in time.
“Watch out for my masterpiece! Rhett frantically held up the cake, but she hugged him even tighter.
Her tears soaked the fabric on his shoulder, warm and comforting.
“Make a wish first!” Rhett hurriedly lit the candles, “Oh wait, let me turn off the lights=”
In the darkness, the candlelight flickered in Isabela’s eyes.
She looked at the flour on the tip of the person’s nose across from her, and suddenly remembered the day she left town. “Rhett was holding an umbrella for her in the rain, half of his body soaked.”
“She agreed.” she said softly.
Rhett leaned in and asked, “Can you tell me the first two wishes if the third one has to be kept a secret?””
“The first one is wishing my mom good health,” she smiled, “The second one is..!
Her eyes scanned the gift box on the coffee table: “a very delicate hand–painted sunflower mug, lots of items that can be used for work, a massager, and
