Chapter 19
Savannah stood at the floor–to–ceiling window of the S&R Group’s executive office, pazing down at the sprawling city below.
Her reflection shimmered faintly on the glass, a wine glass poised between her fingers. The deep red liquid swirled slowly, its color reminiscent of the pool of blood she’d once lainin
A soft knock sounded. Her assistant entered respectfully, a folder in hand.
“Ms. Reed, Whitmore Group’s stock just dropped another five percent. Analysts are increasingly critical of Mr. Whitmore’s recent decisions.”
Savannah took the folder and flipped it open, the corners of her lips curling into a cold smile.
“Excellent.”
She skimmed through the latest financial report, her fingertip pausing on a particular row of figures. Grayson had already sold off several major assets a desperate attempt to patch the financial hole Claire had left behind.
“Start dumping the rest of our Whitmore bonds,” she said flatly, closing the file
The assistant hesitated. “But… Whitmore collapses too quickly, we’ll incur part of the loss ourselves.”
Savannah looked up, her eyes sharp and unwavering
“It doesn’t matter. I don’t care about the less.”
What she wanted was for Grayson Whore to lose everything he once held dear.
Just as she had.
At Whitmore Group, Grayson sat before his screen, eyes locked on the plummeting stock graph. Calls from shareholders flooded in, one after another. With a sigh of annoyance, he switched the phone to sen
“Find out who’s behind this,” he barked at his assistant..
Daniel stood stiffly by the desk, sweat breaking out on his brow. “We traced the money to a Swiss based Investment firm. It’s called S&R Capital. The background is complex–so far, we haven’t identified the actual owner.”
Grayson’s
‘s expression darkened. He frowned “Name again the company name.
“S&R,” Daniel repeated.
Grayson whispered the name under his breath, again and again, as if trying to tease out a hidden meaning. Then his pupils constricted.
Savannah
His g
s grip tightened around the pen, black ink blooming across the paperwork beneath it.
Could it be bet?
Was she back?
In a private suite uptown, Savannah sat across from Xander Klein, Whitmore Group’s former chief financial officer.
Xander wrung his hands cervously. “Ms. Reed.. you promised me
Savannah smiled slightly and slid a check across the table. “That’s your deposit. The rest comes when the job is doga
Xander’s eyes sparkled greedily as he stared at the numbers. He nodded furiously. “Don’t worry, I’ve got it all figured out. Whitmore’s trying to mortgage
a core patent to boost investor confidence. All I need to do is manipulate the ”
“No,” Savannah cut in, her voice calm but firm. “I want you to help him.”
Xander blinked. “Help him?”
“Stabilize the stock. Make him believe the worst is ever. She took a slow sip of wine, her tone sottening into something key and lethal
“Then when he relaxed..”
“Deliver the kill shot,”
The next day, Grayson stared at the suddenly stabilized stock price, his brow furrowed tightly.
“We’ve found out,” Daniel reported. “CEO Xander brought in some outside funding.”

Grayson narrowed his eyes. “Xander? Since when does he have those connections?
Deniel shrugged. “We’re still checking, but the money’s real. It bought us time.”
Grayson turned toward the window, the city glittering under the night sky,
Something didn’t sit right
“Keep check,” he said after a beat. ”

Outside the window, the night was heavy, like the calm before a storm. Savach flipped through the documents Julien had just delivered. She gave a faint
chuckle
“He’s getting suspicious,” she said.
Julian seated across from her, raised an eyebrow. “Time to take the next step?”
“Not yet” Savannah set the file aside and looked out at the stars.
“I want him to come to begging to me himself.”
Just as she once begged him to tum back.
