“Mom and Chloe aren’t at Mrs. Henderson’s place, are they? Quick, tell me!”
I shook Caleb’s hand off, a mocking smile on my face.
“Caleb, even someone as hard–hearted as you can be afraid?”
“I don’t need your dirty money. I want you to remember, every single moment, that you personally killed Mom and Chloe!”
My words sliced into Caleb’s heart like knives.
Ruthlessly pushing his hand away, I tore the money he’d left on the table into shreds and threw it in his face.
“No! This can’t be!”
Caleb grabbed his assistant’s arm. “Take me to the police station!”
He desperately wanted to verify the truth of my words. I watched Caleb’s frantic steps and couldn’t help but curl my lips in a sneer.
Victoria tapped the table with a bent finger. “Since you’re here, why not sit down and talk?”
I still had many unanswered questions. I sat opposite Victoria.
I rubbed the thick calluses on my palms, looking at her beautiful face.

Neither of us spoke first.
We simply stared at each other for a long moment.
Victoria chuckled softly.
“Indeed, any woman who can tolerate Caleb’s bad temper is no ordinary person.”
“What about the bet?”
I didn’t want to waste time with Victoria’s meaningless banter. I cut straight to the point.
Victoria paused, then leaned back into the soft sofa.

“Seven years ago, Caleb fell in love with you at first sight. But as you know, a family like the Shens wouldn’t allow a woman with no status or background to marry into it.”
S
“Caleb and I had an engagement from childhood. Our families were equally matched in status and wealth. If it weren’t for you, the variable, the person marrying Caleb now wouldn’t be you.”
i frowned, uninterested in Victoria’s rambling. My voice was cold.
“Just tell me about the bet.”
Victoria picked up her coffee and took a sip before slowly beginning.
“What’s the rush? I’m getting to it.”
“Caleb insisted on marrying you, so he made a bet with his family. If he pretended to be poor and sick for seven years, whether your

So that’s it! It was *that*!
I finally understood why I occasionally caught the scent of high–end perfume on Caleb.
“Don’t you want to see?” Victoria winked at me. “Didn’t you already know that Caleb was the one who ran over your mother and daughter that day?”
My heart pounded. How did Victoria know?!
Seeing the surprise in my eyes, Victoria chuckled, shaking her head.
“I was in the car too. I saw everything.”
“But you don’t need to wonder why I didn’t tell Caleb. After all, you two breaking up is actually a good thing for me, isn’t it? Why
would I butt in?”
Caleb, at this very moment, had arrived at the police station.
His steps were unsteady. He grabbed a police officer on duty and urgently asked,
“Is there a case involving Harper Lin?”
The officer looked confused. “Who is Harper Lin?”
Caleb felt a weight lift from his chest. He wiped away his tears.
“I knew Harper was just trying to scare mel How could I have killed Mom and Chloe?!”

“Harper Lin?” The officer on duty was still trying to recall.
“Mr. Shen, are you talking about your car accident case?”
а
Caleb felt his world fall silent at that moment.
His eyes blazing red, he glared at the officer. “What are you talking about?! How could Harper Lin be involved in *my* car accident
case?!”
