This prince was really strange.
When the maids led me into the palace, I realized it wasn’t just the prince who was odd–the entire palace exuded an eerie
atmosphere.
Last night, I had only been to the luxurious banquet hall. Today, as I walked deeper into the palace, I saw that the high courtyard walls were covered in vines, and all the colorfully stained glass windows had spider web–like cracks. Despite the many maids bustling about, the entire palace still gave off an air of ancient decay.
After the maids helped me bathe and change clothes, they escorted me to the prince’s chambers. Several people hesitated at the door, not daring to enter.
One of the older maids handed me a key.
“The sixth room on the left is your bedroom. You’re not allowed to go anywhere else.”
I looked up and saw a long, deep corridor with rooms densely packed on both sides, each door locked. The ceiling of the corridor was painted with vivid murals, and magnificent crystal chandeliers hung all the way to the top.
I took the key, about to ask more questions when suddenly one of the maids pushed me. I fell into the corridor and turned back,
confused.
The maids all looked relieved. Their bodies were hidden in the shadows, half–light and half–dark, their smiles a mixture of relief, fear, and anticipation.
The heavy wooden door slowly closed, shutting out their smiling faces.
I rushed to knock on the door.
“What are you doing? Let me out!”
But no matter how I knocked, there was no sound from outside. I stood alone in the deep corridor, the crystal chandeliers overhead splitting my shadow into fragmented pieces. The entire hallway was filled with oddly angled shadows.
I felt my scalp tingle. Clutching the key tightly, I walked to the door of the sixth room on the left.
With a “click,” the key turned. I pushed open the door, and half of my fear dissipated.

With a “click,” the key turned. I pushed open the door, and half of my fear dissipated.
It was a luxurious bedroom, the entire room covered in expensive Persian carpets. Against the wall stood an ornate large bed, and opposite the door were several narrow windows.
The windows were also made of stained glass, too narrow to squeeze through even sideways. But it wasn’t dark outside yet, and golden light shone through the glass windows, adding a touch of warmth to the bedroom.
I stood by the window lost in thought when suddenly a low, heavy footstep sounded from outside the door.
My heart tightened–it was the prince!
I quickly looked around, rushed to the bedside, and lifted the floor–length bed curtains, preparing to crawl underneath.
Under the bed, a pair of glowing green eyes stared at me.
