Over a hundred members of the Mitchell family all showed up at the hospital. When Connor arrived, he didn’t ask a single question. He just took Maya’s hand and told everyone in the Mitchell family, “I believe her.“]
Connor loved her, trusted her, protected her. That was one of the main reasons she’d chosen to forgive him back then.
But now, Connor didn’t even look at Maya. He walked over to Serena and took Emma into his arms, gently patting and comforting her. Once Emma stopped crying, he pointed at Maya and asked Emma.[]
“Emma, sweetheart, tell Daddy–did this lady hit you?“[]
Emma sniffled and wiped her nose. As soon as she heard Connor’s question, she started crying pitifully again.[]
“Yes, it was her! She hit me! And she said she was gonna dig my heart out. Daddy, I’m scared. I don’t want my heart dug out again. The stitches on my heart aren’t even healed yet.“[]

Connor quickly had Serena take Emma back to the room. He walked over to Maya, crouched down and grabbed her chin, his face dark with anger. “Maya, you’ve really disappointed me!“]
“I didn’t!” Maya said each word clearly. “She’s lying.”
“She’s just a child–she can’t lie!” Connor was furious.[]
“Maya, I was the one who decided to stop treatment for our daughter. If you’re upset, take it out on me. Why would you hurt a child! You were a mother too–how could you bring yourself to lay a hand on a kid?“[]
Feeling Connor’s overwhelming rage, Maya finally understood that explanations were useless. Connor no longer believed her.[]
The person who used to trust her without her having to say a word was long gone.]]
“Connor, what do you plan to do about this? If you’re just gonna let this slide, we won’t stand for it!” Connor’s father spoke with a warning tone.[]
Connor let go of her hand. He stood up straight, looking down at Maya from above, his eyes full of disappointment.
“It’s all my fault for spoiling you too much–that’s what led you to this point. Now you’re abusing a child. What’s next? Are you really gonna dig out her heart?
Maya, you need to be punished.]
Take her to the courtyard. Family punishment.“[]
Maya was dragged to the courtyard by the servants, where the butler held a cane in his hand. []
With Connor’s command, the cane struck Maya’s back viciously, tearing her clothes and staining the cane with blood.[]
Beads of sweat appeared on Maya’s forehead, and her back was already torn and bleeding.
The pain made her bite through her own lip, and the strong taste of blood spread through her mouth.]
She really did deserve punishment–punishment for being blind to people’s true nature, punishment for losing her mind because of love, punishment for being blindly confident in love.
After the punishment ended, Maya struggled to lift her head and looked at Connor, who was hurrying over to her, amused by his worried expression.[]
