Chapter 10
Maya nodded silently.
“Maya, I talked it over with Mom and Dad, and we’re planning to hold a banquet in three days to officially bring Emma into the family.”
“Don’t worry, we’re just welcoming Emma back. You’re still my only wife.“]]
“Emma’s a good kid, and bringing her back means our future children will have a big sister.“0
Connor watched Maya’s expression as he spoke, afraid she might be upset. “Maya, Emma has our daughter’s heart–she’s kind of like a continuation of our daughter’s life. Bringing her back to the Mitchell family is like having our daughter come home.“]
“The more we love Emma, the more we’re loving our daughter too.“[]
“But don’t worry, I’ll always keep a place in my heart for our daughter, 1…“]
“Okay.” Maya interrupted Connor’s rambling explanation and agreed with a faint smile. “Whatever you want to do is fine.”
Three days from now–that was exactly the day of her fake death.
She wouldn’t become a stepmother to Connor and Serena’s child–she would end everything on that day.[]
Connor felt both panicked and relieved by Maya’s attitude. He pulled her into his arms, suppressing the unease in his heart, believing that Maya had finally let go of everything and they were back to how things used to be.[]
“Maya, you’re so good.“]
“Maya, we’ll be together like before. I’ll still love you and spoil you, and I’ll find a way to heal those scars on your body.“]]
“Maya, I love you.“]]
Maya let Connor hold her, feeling nothing inside for his confessions and promises.
When they were leaving the hospital, the fake death agency called for the final confirmation, but Connor answered the phone instead.[]
“Miss Maya, we have everything ready.“]]
Connor heard the unfamiliar voice and looked confused. “Who is this? What’s ready?“]
Hearing a man’s voice on the other end, the person hung up immediately.[]
Connor walked into the bathroom with the phone and asked Maya, “Who was that number? Why did they say everything was ready? And why did they hang up as soon as they heard my voice?“]]
“Maya, what did you do?“]
Maya immediately recognized it was the fake death agency calling. She calmly took the phone and made up an excuse.]
“I prepared a surprise for Emma. I don’t want anyone to know about it yet, so they probably hung up when they heard your voice.“[]
Besides the fake death, she really had prepared a surprise for Connor–she just hoped he’d be happy when he received it.[]
Connor still looked confused. “You.., didn’t you dislike Emma?”
“Didn’t you want me to accept her? Now I’m accepting her, and you’re not happy about it?” She answered calmly.[]
“No, I’m just surprised.” Connor pulled Maya into his arms again, with joy. “Maya, I knew it. I knew you’d forgive me eventually.
I’ll make
up to you from now on. I swear.“[]
Still Think by D
If promises actually meant something, then what was all of this now?]]
Maya felt mocking inside.
