At the homecoming celebration, the proud and untouchable Wren Wintringham knelt on one knee to help a young woman put on her
shoe.
The girl’s eyes lit up the moment she saw me.
“You must be the wife! No wonder Wren kept you hidden away!” She rushed over with a bright smile and praised, “You’re so beautiful! I would’ve never guessed you’re almost 32. You look like, maybe 30 tops!”
I’d been married to Wren for ten years and never once heard he had a sister.”
Immediately understanding the situation, I turned to him and said flatly, “You’re already halfway to the grave, and now you’re picking up the habit of keeping a little ‘girl‘ on the side?“}

Ignoring the growing tension, I walked to the only empty seat left, sat down, and picked up the fork and knife.
Before Wren could say a word, the girl cut in, “Maybe it’s just been a while since you and Wren, y’know, did anything. That’s probably why you think he’s getting old. But honestly? He’s got more energy than guys my age.“}
Hearing that, the hunger from my day–long trip vanished. I lost my appetite in an instant.
So Wren had even told her about our lack of intimacy.
“And just to be clear, I’m not some clingy wannabe mistress. I’m here to help you,” she added. “You travel a lot for work, so whenever you’re away, I make sure to keep an eye on Wren for you and keep him from messing around. Girls support girls, right?”
She said all this while plopping herself down right in his lap.
I looked around the table at the business partners and company heads who were present. But I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
This was the same Wren who was always known for being untouchable, cold, and proper in public. And now, here he was, letting some girl sit in his lap like it was nothing.”
We’d been married for ten years, yet he never even let me hold his hand in public.
I thought he’d at least push her off. But instead, he gently supported her waist with one hand.
Finally, he noticed me watching and glanced over.

Ellery Mason gave me a cheeky grin. “Sis, men are meant to be used. Don’t pity him. The moment you start feeling bad for a man, your whole life goes downhill.”
Even having heard of it, Wren didn’t deny it. He just sat there, letting her call him by name.”

But contrary to what I’d expected, he just gave a cold laugh. “You want a divorce? Are you really willing to give up this life of luxury?”
When I married him, our worlds were miles apart. His family only agreed to accept me under one condition. That was if we ever divorced, I had to leave with nothing.
I always thought we’d never come to that. I married him because I thought I was choosing love over everything else,
Turned out, he thought I was after his money.
When I didn’t respond, his smirk deepened. “You’re not a kid anymore, Denisse. Stop acting jealous and petty. Learn from Ellery. This is what a modern woman looks like.”
With that, he stood up and carried Ellery out of the event hall in his arms.
Everyone else, sensing the drama, made a hasty exit too.”
As such, the celebration, meant to honor my achievements, was suddenly over. All that was left sitting alone at the table.
At that, I called my lawyer and told him to draft the divorce papers.
When I got home that night, I was lightheaded with hunger, and my stomach was aching.”
