Chapter 6
In three years of marriage to Darius, I’d never once eaten at the same table as him.]]
Now I finally understood–he only found me repulsive
All his explanations were just excuses to hide how much he despised me
Seeing me slow down on the soup, Kieran touched my forehead with the back of his hand]
After confirming my fever had broken, he gently flicked my forehead.
“Don’t space out while you’re eating
When I kept taking tiny sips with long pauses, he took my bowl and had a taste himself, frowning.]
“Just like I thought–it tastes different when it gets cold. Don’t drink this one. I’ll get you a fresh bowl“]
I’nodded, as obedient as that naive girl I’d been five years ago
While Kieran was at the company handling some business, I was alone in the hospital room reviewing Sterling Corporation’s project files.
My family’s business wasn’t my responsibility, but to help take my mind off things, Kieran still wanted to find something for me to do
He suggested I invest in Sterling Corp and become general manager of one of his branch offices.
So I was using my hospital stay to get familiar with Sterling’s current operations.
Suddenly, there was a commotion outside the room.
Darius burst through the door, his eyes bloodshot.
“Ivy: I finally found you! Tell me, what the hell is this?]
I glanced calmly at the divorce papers in his hand.]]–
“Can’t you read, Mr. Reed?”
Darius was furious, but then seemed to remember something and forced himself to calm down
“Ivy, it was all just a misunderstanding. Why did you run away from home and try to threaten me with fake divorce papers? What I said before was just… I was angry! How could you take it seriously? And I had no idea you were actually hemorrhaging||||
“I already told you–I don’t react to Celeste because I see her as a guy. I wasn’t lying to you. You saw it yourself–I really do break out when I touch you. It’s not because I find you disgusting…”
*None of that matters anymore.”
1 cut him off.
“None of it matters, Darius Whether you’re only allergic to me, or only not allergic to Celeste, or even if you’ve been faking the whole allergy thing–none of it matters anymore.”
“I didn’t run away from home; I moved out permanently. I didn’t forge divorce papers–you personally had Celeste sign that divorce agreement the other day. We’re already divorced.“[]
Darius looked at me in disbelief.]
“How is that possible? That was supposed to be the Sterling Industries contract Besides, Ivy, our relationship was so solid–how me divorce papers? Quit joking around“]
could you suddenly slip
Celeste had somehow slipped into the room. Hearing this, she went pale and tried to sneak out, but Darius grabbed her wrist hard |
“Celeste, you signed that contract? You saw what it was–why didn’t you tell me? You knew damn well it was a divorce agreement! Why did you sign 17′′
Celeste’s wound hurt from his grip, and she wanted to shake him off, but there was a guilty hesitation in her movement. []
Let go.
Darius! You’re hurting me! I don’t know what you’re talking about!”
1 expressionlessly sent the backup video to both their phones.
Thank God my lawyer reminded me to record everything during the signing. You personally signed the contract, and there’s clear evidence that you looked through it–obviously you knew what it was. And Mr. Reed, there’s clear audio of you delegating the signing to someone else. It’s completely legal and binding. This contract is in effect. Our divorce is a done deal. Please don’t waste time arguing over technicalities
“If there’s nothing else, please leave. I’m a patient who just went through a miscarriage and hemorrhaging. I need to rest.”
Darius stood there stunned, then carefully walked over to crouch beside my bed, looking up at me
“Ivy, are you still mad at me? Look, hove about this–if it’ll make you feel better, hit me. Even if I end up in the ER today, as long as you can forgive me. I’ll take it.”
I’ll take
With that he closed his eyes with a martyred expression and grabbed my hand, trying to make me slap his face.
I pulled away from him, saying flatly, “Forget it.“]
My own husband of three years–it took me nearly dying for him to graciously allow me to touch h him.]
How pathetic.]]
Just forget it.
I’m the one who’s disgusted now.
The one who thinks he’s dirty!
Just as Darius was about to say something, his assistant burst through the door in a panic
“This is bad, Mr. Reed: Sterling Industries just canceled their partnership with us our cash flow is completely cut off! And Sterling Corp just held a press conference saying any company that partners with us will be blacklisted from all future deals. All our partners heard that and bailed immediately! The company’s going bankrupt
