Chapter 23
Adrian stood in the yard, blood from his busted knuckles dripping onto the ground, but he didn’t feel a thing.
His stare was glued to where Riley had disappeared, his chest exploding with this rage and guilt he’d never experienced,
“Boss!” His assistant came jogging over holding a thick envelope, looking all serious. “Got what you wanted.”
Adrian slowly looked over, his voice flat and cold: “What is it?”
His assistant paused, then held out the envelope: “This is… everything Miss Pierce has been pulling on your wife all these years.”
Adrian grabbed the envelope and tore it open.
Inside were tons of photos, security camera shots, and audio recordings. He started flipping through them and his jaw dropped-
In the pictures, Elena was hanging around the staircase, checking to make sure nobody was watching before dumping water all over the steps.
In the security footage, she was sneaking around behind Riley’s back, swapping out her pills for something that would mess her up.
And then there was this recording-
“That dumb bitch–all I gotta do is play the victim and Adrian eats it right up. She’s getting exactly what she deserves…”
Adrian’s fist kept tightening until the papers were totally crushed in his hand.
His breathing got rougher and rougher, his eyes filling up with this scary rage,
“And there’s this…” His assistant gulped and passed him a medical report. “When your wife got locked in the basement that time, Miss Pierce… she had someone throw a bag of rats in there.”
Adrian’s head started pounding and everything went fuzzy, like his whole world just came crashing down.
He remembered that night.
Riley had been stuck in that basement all night, and when she came out the next morning she looked like death and couldn’t stop shaking.
He figured she was just being a drama queen, even made fun of her: “Locked up for one night and you cried like a baby the whole time?”
But what she’d actually told him was, “Elena dumped rats in there…”
And he didn’t believe her. Not even close.
Adrian’s chest was rising and falling hard, this crazy fury washing over his entire body.
He threw the papers down on the ground, his voice completely shot: “Where the hell is Elena?”
His assistant got so scared by the look in Adrian’s eyes he backed up: “She’s… she’s back at your place…”
Adrian whipped around and stormed off, moving so fast he was basically jogging. He pulled out his phone and speed–dialed his security chief, his voice colder than anything: “Get Elena and throw her in the basement. Now!”
The guy hesitated: “Mr. Kane, you want me to…”

“Am I speaking fucking Chinese?” Adrian’s voice went completely black. “Lock her ass up and show her some ‘hospitality‘–I want her to get a taste of everything she did to Riley, except way worse!”

Chapter 23
Back at the Kane place.
Elena was lounging on the couch doing her nails, humming along to whatever was stuck in her head.
She’d just heard that Adrian had gone to Savannah chasing after Riley. It bugged the hell out of her, but she was pretty sure that with Riley being such a stubborn bitch, she’d never take him back.
All Elena had to do was keep stirring the pot and Adrian would eventually get totally fed up with that psycho.
While she was plotting, the front door got absolutely demolished!
Elena nearly jumped out of her skin and saw Adrian charging in, looking like he wanted to murder someone.
Her heart dropped, but she quickly switched to her helpless act: “Adrian, what’s going on? Why do you look so…”
Before she could get the words out, Adrian’s hand was around her throat, pinning her to the wall!
“Elena,” his voice was so low and scary it sounded like it came straight from hell, “you really are one sick little freak.”
Elena was choking, her face going bright red as she scratched at his arm, “Adrian… what are you doing… let go of me…”
Adrian let out this nasty laugh and just dropped his hand.
Elena hit the floor hard, grabbing her neck and hacking up a lung, tears and snot streaming down her face.
“Get her out of my sight.” Adrian looked at her like she was roadkill. “Basement. Now.”
His security team stepped right up and yanked Elena to her feet, dragging her toward the basement stairs.
That’s when Elena totally lost it, fighting and shrieking: “Adrian! Are you completely fucking insane?! You can’t do this to me! Who do you think has had your back all this time?! You forgot that Riley doesn’t want your sorry ass?!”
Adrian’s eyes went even more murderous.
He slowly got down to her level and grabbed her face, his grip so tight she thought he might break her jaw: “Elena, listen up real good–from this second on, you’re gonna be begging me to put you out of your misery.”
With that, he threw her aside and told his guys in this ice–cold voice: “Get some rats and dump them in there with her. Let her have a party.”
Elena’s face went completely white:
“No… don’t! Adrian! You can’t fucking do this to me! NOOOO!”
Her screaming got muffled by the heavy steel door slamming shut.
Adrian stood outside the basement, looking like pure evil.
As much as he’d babied Elena before, that’s how much he despised her now.
But he hated himself way more.
