Chapter 8
Getting more and more impatient with the Daulton sisters, he curled his lip and said, “Don’t you two know exactly what this means? Stop playing innocent. You deliberately strung me along while trying to latch onto me.
“I’ve given you what you wanted. Now get out.
“Don’t ever show your faces again. I don’t want Hannah to be upset.”
Abigail stood up in disbelief, staring at Adam. “Adam, didn’t you say you loved us?
“You have already divorced Hannah. Why are you kicking us out?
“Did Hannah say something to you? Is she threatening you?”
The next moment, Abigail’s face stung sharply.
Adam casually rubbed his wrist, his eyes cold as ice. “I told you to get out. Are you deaf?
“You were nothing but cheap entertainment to kill my boredom. Did you really think you were noble ladies?”
He then gestured to the bodyguards behind him, who immediately stepped forward to grab the two women and throw them out the door.
The Daulton sisters banged on the door like maniacs. “Adam, do you have some misunderstanding about us? Let us in now. Don’t abandon us!”
Adam’s impatience deepened almost tangibly. He ordered the bodyguards to pack up all of Abigail and Layla’s belongings and throw them outside,

then restore the bedroom to its original state.
Unfortunately, many items were no longer available for purchase.
Staring at the empty house, Adam felt a growing anxiety. He snapped at the bodyguards, “Go find me a dog.”
The bodyguards looked confused, prompting Adam to snarl, “I said find a dog! Can’t you understand what I said?
“Find a puppy identical to the one Mrs. Acrea used to have. Do it now.”
The bodyguard immediately responded and walked out.
Just then, the butler respectfully handed an invitation to Adam.
“Mr. Acrea, the head of the Harlan family in New York, is newly married and has specially sent this invitation for you to attend the banquet.”
Mr. Acrea took the invitation and frowned. “The richest man in New
York, Mason?”
As he casually opened the invitation, his breath suddenly caught when he
saw the bride’s name on it.
His fingers trembling, he confirmed it repeatedly.
“Was this delivered by the Harlan family?”
The butler nodded. “Yes, Mr. Acrea.”
Adam nervously swallowed, his face turning pale.
“Why is the bride Hannah? Could it be just the same name?”
The butler was also confused, frowning as he guessed, “It should not be

the same person. It is said that the Harlan family values this daughter–in- law very much.
“Mrs. Acrea’s background…”
Hearing the butler’s words, Adam instantly felt relieved.
“Yes, it can’t be Hannah.”
The Harlan family was the richest in New York, and there was no way Hannah’s background could have matched up to theirs.
He tossed the invitation back to the butler. “Prepare a generous gift for me. After all, it’s the Harlan family. We can’t afford to be careless.”

I ran my fingers over the gold–embossed invitation while Mason was busy with wedding preparations.
My mind flew back to childhood. The year the Harlan family moved away, I was only six, crying as I chased after their car, shouting, “Mason!”
After running for a long time, he got out of the car and ran toward me.
He carried me back, cooing as he walked, “Be good, Hannah. I’ll come back for you. Wait for me, okay?”
That same year, my dad had a mistress behind my mom’s back.
Because of her, he hardly ever came home.
He even made my mom divorce him and kicked us out of the house.
On that day, we became the laughing stock of the entire social circle.

Back then, my mom married my dad even though my grandparents were against it, willing to cut off ties with her family.
After being kicked out, she couldn’t even go back to her parents‘ house.
Raising me by herself, my mom lived in really tough financial situations.
