Chapter 9
When I was 18, I met Adam. He was really determined that my mom should be his piano teacher, and things started to get a little better for us.
My mom got really sick because of what my dad did and all the stress. from life. Adam was always there for us, running around day and night, even getting top international teams to make special medicine for her.
For a long time, I kept my feelings for Adam a secret, scared to let myself fall for him.
He pursued me for three whole years before I finally said yes.
The moment I agreed, he picked me up and spun me around, super happy
like a kid.
There was knocking on the door.
The makeup artist walked in. “Ms. Hackett, it’s time to change into your wedding dress.”
As soon as I put on the gown, a butterfly landed on my shoulder.
Tears filled my eyes. “Mom, is that you?”
Mason showed up behind me at some point, gently taking my hand. “It’s your mom. She came specially to bless us.
Then he said to the butterfly earnestly, “Don’t worry, Mom. I’ll take good care of Hannah.”
After he finished speaking, the butterfly circled around us several times

before flying out the window.
I watched through misty tears as the butterfly flew farther and farther away. Mason patted my shoulder.
“You’ve cried off your makeup. You look like a little cat. Let the makeup artist touch it up. Most of the guests have arrived.”
My voice trembled. “Did… that person come?”
Mason’s face darkened as he nodded.
“Hannah..
He hesitated, words on the tip of his tongue.
I cut him off.
“Mason, I need to handle this myself.”
He smiled with relief. “I know. I just worry you might get hurt.”
The moment I stepped out holding Mason’s hand, Adam in the guest seats jolted to his feet.
“Hannah! How can it be you?”
He rushed forward to grab my hand. “You’re my wife. How can you marry someone else? Did he force you? Come with me!”
I chuckled, pulling my hand free.
“Mr. Acrea. Long time no see.”
Adam’s eves widened. “What did you call me?”
I smiled and repeated, “Mr. Acrea.”

Before he could respond, I sneered, “Congratulations on your new
romance, Mr. Acrea. You’ve gained two beauties. So kind of you to spare time from your busy schedule to attend my wedding with Mason.”
Mason stepped up in front of me and said calmly, “Please step aside, Mr. Acrea. Our wedding ceremony is about to start.”
His bodyguards escorted Adam back to his seat immediately.
Adam kept his eyes on me, murmuring, “Hannah! Hannah, my marriage to them was fake. How can you marry someone else?”
I sneered, “Didn’t you sign the divorce agreement with your own hands,
Mr. Acrea?
“You must have received the divorce certificate by now. There’s nothing between us anymore. If anything, it’s a relationship of life and death.
“Adam, don’t be too arrogant. Do you think I can’t marry someone else besides you?”
He struggled to break free from the bodyguards and tried to rush onto the
stage.
Just then, Adam’s parents, Howard Acrea and Maria Acrea, suddenly appeared and held him back. “Adam, don’t cause a scene. This is a Harlan banquet. We’ll figure things out after it’s over.
“We can’t afford to offend the Harlan family.”
So, Adam could only watch as I said, “I do.”
He looked as I put the ring on Mason’s finger.
He looked as Mason and I kissed on the stage.
His eyes got all red and desperate.
But my heart was swelling with satisfaction.
It still wasn’t enough. Not even close.
After the wedding, Mason planned a six–month honeymoon for us.
I felt a little overwhelmed. Most people only take a month, but he arranged it for half a year.
He smiled calmly. “I just want to take you away to relax. Haven’t you always wanted to travel?”
Tears of relief instantly filled my eyes.
