Chapter 8 Slapped the Homewrecker and Sc*mbag With the Truth
“Sweetheart!”
Jade’s father arrived soon after, heading straight for her and sizing her up with concern.
The moment I caught a glimpse of his back, I almost laughed out loud. Well, if it isn’t the head of strategy at my family’s company!
With someone finally backing them, Benjamin puffed up his chest like a champion rooster. “This is Jade’s father, a department head at Iverson Group–Iverson Group, I’m telling you! One of the top 500 companies in the world!”
“So what?” I shrugged. Did he really think I didn’t know my family’s company? The group was called Iverson, not Steele or Simmons. What was he even so proud of?
Apparently, I didn’t react with enough shock or awe, because Derek Simmons turned toward me in irritation. “So, you’re the one bullying my daughter? Trying to get her thrown in jail?”
But as soon as he saw my face, his raised hand froze mid–air.
I smiled. “What’s the matter? Were you about to hit me?”
Before he could respond, Jade couldn’t hold herself back anymore and stepped forward. “You little b*tch! I’ll do it, Dad!”
Derek, realizing he couldn’t stop her in time, jumped in front of me and took the slap himself.
“Dad! What are you doing? Are you insane?!”
As she screamed, Derek trembled and dropped to his knees in front of me.
“Ms. Iverson, my daughter didn’t know any better and offended you. Please–let this go.”
“Dad, what are you even saying? Why are you kneeling to her?!”
Seeing her still pulling and yelling, Derek slapped her hard across the face and forced her to kneel beside him. “I’m this close to retirement, are you going to ruin it for me?! Do you even know who she is? That’s Alistair Iverson’s daughter–the sole heir to Iverson Group!”
Jade and Benjamin looked like they’d just been struck by lightning. Both of them froze, totally stunned.
“Olivia… is that true? We’ve known each other for years–why didn’t you ever say anything?” Benjamin asked, but then his gaze shifted, as if he had just recalled something. “The one million you said you won in the lottery… that was you, wasn’t it? You gave it to me. And those business deals with Iverson Group–I thought it was because of Jade… but it was all you, wasn’t it?”
I couldn’t be bothered to answer. He was just talking to himself now. Jade’s expression shifted, and she tried to pull him toward her–but he shook her off without hesitation.
“Benjamin Steele!” she cried out, voice cracking.
Derek yanked her back roughly. “Wake up! Drop the sc*mbag and apologize to Ms. Iverson! Maybe she’ll let us off.”
“I won’t! Why should I apologize? I didn’t do anything wrong!”
Seeing she was beyond help, Derek had no choice but to pay the compensation out of his own pocket, nearly bankrupting himself. He forced a strained smile and promised he’d come by personally to apologize next time. Then, dragging Jade behind him, he bolted from the station like his life depended on it.
But there wouldn’t be a next time.
My father had already heard about the incident and was furious. Derek had been stripped of his position and was being quietly removed from the company.
At the police station, Benjamín still hadn’t given up. Now that he knew who I really was, regret had eaten him alive. He tried every line he could think of to win me back.

“Olivia, do you remember when we used to live in that tiny rental apartment? Things were tight, but we were happy. I know you must’ve had your reasons for hiding your identity. You chose to stay with me when you didn’t have to. Let’s start over, please?
“Jade was just a mistake. I didn’t know you were the one behind our deals with Iverson Group. I only stayed with her to keep the business going. Everything I did, it was for you, to give you a better life!”
Sc*mbags always read from the same script. I pried his hands off me.
“We’re divorced, Benjamin. Have some self–respect.”
Still, he didn’t give up. “Even if you hate me now, we have a baby together. You wouldn’t want our child to grow up without father, would you?”
He had no idea I’d already had a miscarriage. I’d cleaned up by the time he returned home, and I wasn’t showing yet, since it had only been a few weeks.
The moment he brought up the baby, my anger surged. What right did he have to mention that poor child?!
“Keep dreaming. Even if the baby had lived, you’d have no claim to him. What’s more, the baby’s gone–thanks to your precious ‘wife.“”
He tried to reach for me again, but this time, a police officer stepped in and cuffed him.
“Benjamin Steele, you’re under investigation for falsifying legal documents. Please come with us.”
Turned out he had bribed someone at the city hall to issue a fake marriage certificate. After Jade reported him, the official involved had already been arrested.
Not long after, I heard Benjamin and Jade had a fight. It escalated to the point where they stabbed each other and both died from their wounds.
But honestly, what did any of that have to do with me?
Now that I’d returned to my life as a true heiress, my biggest problem each day was figuring out how to spend all my money.
