Chapter 10

In the eyes of the Sinney elite and the privileged youth of Regality Academy, Jaylen was a highly representative figure. So the moment he spoke up, the crowd immediately quieted down.
No matter what, they had to show him some respect.
So, everyone backed off.
In the crowd, Narissa raised an eyebrow.
She hadn’t thought that in the elite circles of Sinney, in a place like Regality Academy that symbolized power and privilege, there’d be someone like Jaylen–someone whose thinking stood out.
It was unexpected.
Thanks to Jaylen’s appearance, the matter came to an end. With him stepping in, no one dared to give Narissa a hard time afterward.
After the training session, everyone went home as usual.
But Narissa wasn’t in a hurry to head back. Instead, she made a detour to the underground black market near Sinney.
The reason? She’d suddenly received a message from her subordinate, Octopus, that he’d sent someone to meet her there.
They’d hand over the Blood Ruby in person.
Once that was done, her recent mission would officially be over. Until the next assignment came, she could peacefully stay at the Everton family as the second young miss, enjoying time with her parents.
“Boss, I’ve put in for your leave up the chain. Soon as we hand over the Blood Ruby, just kick back and play civilian–no strings attached.” That was Octopus’s exact words.
But-
The moment Narissa stepped into the underground black market of Sinney, even before entering the main gate, she knew today’s mission wasn’t ending anytime soon.
Because the black market, inside and out, was under surveillance by Bastien’s people.
To be fair, the underground black market wasn’t some creepy, dark place. It was more like an entertainment hub for the city’s wealthy elite.
But hidden among the glitz and glamour were a few spots where shady, off–the–books deals went down–stuff ordinary folks would never know about.
Even among the elite who frequented the entertainment district, very few were in the know.
Most people here carried an air of worldly experience, but many walking around, despite their laid–back or indulgent outfits, couldn’t hide their sharp, no–nonsense vibe.
In other words, Bastien probably noticed long ago that she might come to the black market, so he sent his men ahead of

time to blend in as regulars at the entertainment center.
If she went in, she’d be walking right into a trap.
‘Damn it! That guy just won’t leave me alone. Narissa had never been this annoyed before, but there was no choice–today’s meetup had to be called off.
However, since she was already at the entrance of the underground black market, turning around to leave would look too sudden and tip off the watchers.
So, she couldn’t just walk away like that.
After just a second of thought, Narissa turned and headed straight for the racetrack right next to the black market.
Vroom!
The roar of racing engines filled the air, loud enough to make her eardrums throb.
Though she hadn’t planned to come here, it was worth mentioning that racing was one of Narissa’s favorite extreme sports.
Whenever she finished a mission as a master thief, she loved finding a track for some high–speed, adrenaline–fueled action.
Normally, though, she’d be at international racetracks, competing in all kinds of events.
The racetrack in Sinney was huge–she’d heard about it–but this was her first time actually being here.
Narissa’s eyes darted around excitedly.
But before she could even scan half the place, she suddenly spotted a familiar face.
‘It was him?!‘ she exclaimed inwardly.
–A all
“You’re… Narissa?” Jaylen, shining brightly in the middle of a crowd, also noticed her. Back at Regality Academy, he’d already heard about Narissa’s name and reputation from others.
He figured she’d had a tough life–should’ve grown up under the Everton family’s influence like Cressida, but ended up displaced at a young age. The second daughter of the prestigious Everton family, yet forced into all kinds of dangerous situations just to survive.
In Jaylen’s mind, Narissa should be a girl who appeared strong on the surface but was actually fragile,
However, he never expected that she would actually show up at a racetrack right next to an underground black market.
“What are you doing here?” Jaylen asked in surprise.
“What? Does this place have a rule that only seniors like you can come?” Faced with Jaylen’s shock, Narissa just crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow.
She spoke casually, her tone not at all confrontational.
It wasn’t hard to see that Narissa didn’t dislike Jaylen, the guy who had just stood up for her in front of everyone.
“Uh… that’s not what I meant.” Awkward, Jaylen rubbed his forehead and quickly changed the subject. “So, you’re into racing

“Yeah.” Narissa took a few steps forward, nodding slightly, but her gaze was fixed on the speeding cars on the track ahead.
There were her dreams and pursuits.
And in the past, she had raced countless times on the track because she couldn’t find a goal to pursue. Only by pouring her life into the car, feeling the thrill of life and death on the track, could she find a trace of herself.
So, strictly speaking, racing was her endless pursuit of life.
“You… race?” Even though Jaylen asked that, he couldn’t help but feel surprised when he got Narissa’s reply.
‘Wasn’t the second daughter of the Everton family, who had just been brought back, supposed to have been working odd jobs abroad before?
‘Who knew she had this hidden side? She actually races?‘ he thought to himself.
“What, do you also look down on me, thinking a wild girl like I don’t deserve to play this high–end game with people like you?” Narissa raised an eyebrow in response.
Jaylen didn’t realize that, in Narissa’s eyes, racing was just a game, just a way to kill time.
“No, that’s not what I meant-”
“Well, it’s no big deal. People always have to do things they think are crazy–or not crazy–to prove to the world that they once existed, right?” Narissa laughed. “Like how I’ve worked as a cleaner and done plenty of other rough stuff.”
Like… killing.
A lot of people.
Good ones, bad ones, too.
Listening to Narissa, Jaylen was just a bit shocked–shocked by how different this girl was.
After all, in wealthy families, everyone kept up appearances, especially the young ladies. No one would ever show their dark side.
But Narissa was different. She just openly admitted her past like it were no big deal.
This not only gave Jaylen a new perspective on Narissa, but even his friends standing beside him. Originally, they looked down on Narissa, the second daughter of the Everton family, who used to be a cleaner and even did some shady stuff Cressida mentioned.
When they first saw Narissa, they were even thinking of messing with her.
But now…
“Yo! Jaylen, when did you get so close with Miss Everton?”
“This is the first time you’ve ever walked this close to a girl!”
