Chapter 5
Isabella’s POV
The communicator started ringing wildly, like a death knell piercing through the silence. I flinched and dropped it. It hit the floor with a crack, and my heart dropped with it.
The courage I’d just scraped together to sign the termination wa
was instantly crushed. I’d been so naive, thinking that ending the pregnancy and forgetting the past would mean it was all over.
It would never be over. Kane, Liliana, those other two men would cling to me like parasites, haunting me with their filth, reminding me over and over again that this nightmare would never end.
My whole body shook as I dropped to my knees and fumbled to pick up the communicator. I called my parents.
Their familiar, warm voices came through instantly, asking how I was, if I’d been treated badly. The words I’d held in for so long came rushing out. I sobbed as I told them everything, every cruel twist of it. And finally, through my tears, I begged. “Mom, Dad… can I
terminate the mate bond? I can’t be with him anymore. Please.”
There was a pause. Then I heard the trembling in their voices.
“My baby… you’ve suffered so much.” My mother was crying now. “The family car will come tonight to bring you home. We’ll take care of everything. Just come home and sleep. When you wake up, it’ll all be over.”
Kane’s driver showed up first. I handed him the signed Mate Bond Termination Agreement and told him to deliver it. Then I got into the car heading back to the Ward family estate and tossed my communicator out the window, silencing the ringing for good.
The pack auction was nearly over. Kane’s expression grew uglier with every passing minute I didn’t show.
When the Beta assistant finally handed him a file, he raised an eyebrow. “She didn’t come, but she sent me a piece of paper?”
The assistant kept his head low. “Yes, Luna said this is what she wanted. She asked that you read it first. She’ll arrive shortly after.”
Kane’s lips curled into a smug little smile. He slowly tore open the file, fingers graceful, confident. The moment the words “Mate Bond Termination Agreement” came into view, the smile froze on his face.
At the same time, the auctioneer brought down the gavel. “And now, the final item of tonight’s auction-”
Our car rolled to a stop.
Outside, I saw my parents standing at the gates of the estate, waiting for me.
I hesitated. Kept my head down. Bit my lip so hard it nearly bled. I felt like a child who had made a mess and now needed her parents to clean it up. I’d grown up spoiled, loved by the entire family. And now, look at me.
My mother rushed over and wrapped me in a tight embrace. My father gave a cold snort. “At least you came home. Guess you’re not completely hopeless.”
They told me I didn’t need to worry. Right before the final auction item could be revealed, the pack enforcement squad had arrived. On grounds of violating pack ethics, they had shut the entire event down.
