Chapter 6
Kane’s POV
The auction hall was in chaos, but I couldn’t see anything except that thin stack of paper in my hands. Liliana didn’t even have time to gloat about the termination. She just wanted to run.
“Kane, what’s happening? Why are there so many enforcers here? I’m scared. Let’s go, please, let’s go.”
But for the first time, I didn’t respond to her. My fingers were trembling, locked around the signature I’d scrawled three years ago. I turned on my assistant, voice rising. “Is this all Isabella gave you? That’s impossible.”
“She had to say something else. You’re hiding something. Are you trying to get fired?”
He nearly dropped to his knees in panic. “Luna just asked the driver to deliver the file. She didn’t say anything else, I swear.” The auction was packed with powerful pack leaders, but the enforcers were checking every single identity without hesitation. That only meant one thing. Someone with more power than us was pushing from behind.
Liliana’s hands were sweaty and clammy as she gripped my arm tighter. She was shaking. The enforcers were getting closer. But all I could hear were the voices from three years ago. Isabella’s parents.
“Your grandfather once helped the Ward family. Now that Silentwood Pack needs assistance, we’re willing to return that favor.” “But Isabella is the heart of the Ward family. If there ever comes a day she wants to end the bond, we hope you will let her dignity.”
Back then, I thought it was just polite formalities. I never imagined that day would actually come.
But Isabella was really gone now. Gone for good, taking that forgotten promise with her and walking out of my life forever.

Liliana tried to laugh it off. “Come on, Kane. She’s just embarrassed. Any Omega who got passed around by three Alphas wouldn’t have the face to stay in a bond. This is her way of saving face. Why are you taking it so seriously?”
“Let’s just leave. We don’t want to get pulled into some investigation, do we?”
I shook her off coldly. My voice was sharp enough to draw blood. “How did Isabella find out the truth?”
I turned to my two pack brothers. “Was it you?”
They shook their heads furiously, miming zipped lips. “No way. Not a word from us.
Then I turned back to Liliana. My lips curled into a smile, but there was no warmth in it. “Then who do you think told her? You think I told her myself?”
Liliana jumped back like I’d slapped her. Sweat beaded on her forehead.
For the first time, she looked like a stranger to me. Ever since she returned to the pack, I had sensed something off in her behavior. I had chosen to ignore it.
But this?
This crossed the line. No one got to use me as a weapon to hurt Isabella. She was my Luna. Only I had the right to wrong her.
“Liliana, why are you in such a hurry to leave? We’re law–abiding members of this pack. What’s the harm in cooperating with an investigation?”
“Unless, of course, you have something to hide?”
Her face went pale. My Alpha presence flooded the room. She could barely stay upright.
“…no. I don’t…”
I reached out and grabbed her chin, pressing down just hard enough to make her flinch. I stared into her eyes, savoring the flicker of Chapter 6

fear. “Don’t forget. Isabella is the Luna I bonded with. Anyone who slaps her is slapping the face of our pack.”
“I spoiled you. Let you do whatever you wanted. But only within my permission.”
Just then, the enforcer stepped in front of us. His voice was calm, but firm. “Alpha, we need you to cooperate with our investigation.”
I nodded. All the smaller families who were allied with us took the hint. One by one, they gave in too. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the enforcers gathering evidence from the auction stage. A thick stack of photographs. The top one only showed a woman’s hand.
But I knew that hand. And my vision darkened.
