Chapter 5
She refused to marry Jaiden simply because she worried I’d miss the optimal childbearing age and couldn’t give her a healthy, beautiful baby.
I smiled bitterly. Even in this chaotic state, the heartache remained clear and profound.
Fighting back my inner anguish, I quietly slipped into the house to retrieve the evidence while Jaiden and Layla were distracted by the commotion.
Faced with irrefutable evidence, Layla and Jaiden had no choice but to be escorted away by the police.
At the hospital, I lay on the cold operating table, tears streaming down uncontrollably.
I had once cherished the life in my womb as much as I now despised it.
But I absolutely couldn’t let this child be born.
I would never allow another person’s child to grow inside my
body.
I struggled to prop myself up and looked at the undeveloped embryo before me.

It wasn’t just a life cut short–it was solid evidence of Jaiden and Layla’s crimes.
As long as I handed this evidence over to the police and let the law investigate, they’d have no chance of escaping justice.
Though I was weak all over and my lips were frighteningly pale, I still gritted my teeth and headed toward the police station.
However, before I could even step out of the hospital entrance, my head was struck with tremendous force.
Looking down, I saw a sharp stone covered in fresh blood.
Blood flowed down from my forehead, blurring most of my vision.
In an instant, everything turned crimson red.
“You shameless woman! How could you hurt your sister like this? I’ve always said that without Layla, you’d have no reason to exist!” Grace screamed furiously, spittle flying.
She roughly grabbed my chin and delivered a resounding slap.
Already weakened, I was left dizzy and disoriented by the blow, collapsing heavily to the ground.
She snatched the package from my hands and tore it open in front of the crowd behind her.

“My poor grandson, killed by this heartless woman before I could even see him!” Grace wailed, beating her chest and rolling on the ground in anguish.
I felt not just physical pain, but something pressing against my chest, making it hard to breathe.
“What I do with my body is my right!” I said. “Why should I become Layla’s tool?”
She stood up and spat viciously in my face. “You actually think you’re an independent person? From the day you were born, you’ve been Layla’s accessory, a toy for her to play with when she’s happy!”
I wanted to escape this place of chaos, but the crowd of onlookers behind me clearly had no intention of letting me go.

Curses poured from their mouths as they raised their fists, striking me again and again.
I no longer had the strength to resist, lying in a pool of blood, barely clinging to life.
Meanwhile, Grace seemed completely oblivious to my condition, clutching that mass of flesh and blood as she turned to leave.
She cried out in heartbreak and anguish.

Layla’s child was her precious grandson, while her own daughter was merely a tool.
In that moment, I could barely tell whether I had passed out or died.
I even thought that dying right then might not be such a bad thing–it would be a kind of release.
But fate always loved playing cruel jokes on me.
When I opened my eyes again, I found myself looking into Jaiden’s weathered, weary eyes.
