Graham made a show of it–dozens of men in black suits closing in around my mother and me.
I leveled my voice. “Graham, think carefully. Who really runs the Whitmore family?”
He smirked, savoring the moment. “I do. And this is just punishing two disobedient servants.
My brothers spoke up in chorus, “Dad, don’t waste time on them. Mom’s birthday party still has to go on.”
Surrounded by men who treated her like royalty, Claudia dabbed fake tears from her eyes.

I forced my breathing to steady, keeping my eyes locked on the massive screen at the end of the ballroom. All I needed was to buy another two or three minutes… just enough for my backup to arrive.

I shot back instantly.
“You’ve hated me all your lives because you can’t beat me. You’re pathetic–cowards who only know how to bully your own mother and

They didn’t get to finish.
The sound of synchronized footsteps cut them off.
Graham’s eyes widened as he turned toward the ballroom doors.
